Originally from Burma, Cherry is a 34-year-old woman who lives with her father's cousin and her two cousins in Tak Province, Thailand. Her two cousins are students, while Cherry is a homemaker. Her father's cousin runs her own small business, selling everything from makeup to food online or through her friends. They work hard to support their family. In the beginning of 2023, Cherry began to experience troubling symptoms, including swollen neck and discomfort when swallowing food. She was diagnosed with thyroid goiter. The thyroid is the gland located in front of your neck and produces thyroid hormones. These hormones are responsible for functions such as metabolism, growth and other bodily functions. She needs surgery to prevent her symptoms from getting worse. Our medical partner, Burma Children Medical Fund, is helping Cherry receive treatment. She is scheduled to undergo a thyroidectomy on January 24th at Mae Sot General Hospital. Surgeons will remove all or part of her thyroid gland. She and her family need help raising $1,500 for her treatment. Cherry said, "I feel stressed about my condition. Since I heard that my family who lives in Burma have now become displaced, I have felt more stressed and I am worried about them. I want to get treatment and recover soon so that I can look for a job and support my family back home. Umaru is a small-scale farmer from Uganda. He farms on his small piece of land, mainly growing food crops for home consumption and selling the surplus to generate income for his family. Umaru came in presenting with an umbilical swelling, which he has had for close to 6 months. The pain and swelling progressed over time, affecting his movement and ability to perform daily activities. Umaru was diagnosed with an umbilical hernia and the doctors recommended for him to have surgery to remove the mass. Umaru traveled to our medical partner's care center to receive treatment. On March 5th, surgeons will remove the mass. Now, Umaru needs help to raise $188 to fund this procedure. Umaru says, "With support, I hope to undergo my surgery, expect to get better, and continue farming in good health to sustain my family."

Sam Ang lives with a group of friends in Kandaal province in Cambodia. He works as a truck driver. His family and siblings live nearby, where they run a small grocery stall on the roadside. In his free time, Sam Ang goes fishing in the Mekong River or checks the news on his phone. A previous injury that was left untreated is limiting his function on his right arm. He is also experiencing a loss of sensation and discomfort, making it difficult to drive long hours at his job. Surgeons at our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, plan to do a nerve procedure to improve function and sensation in Sam Ang's arm. Surgery and physiotherapy will allow him to carry out his job and everyday activities without difficulty. Now Sam Ang and his family need $572 to fund his surgery, post-op medications, and physiotherapy. Sam Ang shared, "I hope I can improve my arm so I can go back to work and help support my family."
