Klo is a 5-year-old who lives with his parents and four siblings in their village in Burma. His family farms and raises chickens and pigs. Klo enjoys playing with his siblings and exploring his surroundings. His parents hope that, with proper medical intervention, he will be able to grow up without complications and live a happy, healthy life. In January, Klo woke up unable to open his right eye. His eye was red and itchy. Concerned, his mother took him to the local clinic, where he was prescribed medications and eye drops. When his condition did not improve, his mother took him to another clinic, where the doctor prescribed a different type of eye drops, but he continued not to get better. Klo was then referred to a hospital in Thailand, where the doctor referred him again to our medical partner's hospital for further treatment. Surgeons at our medical partner's hospital determined that Klo needs to undergo lens replacement surgery. During this procedure, the surgeons will remove Klo's natural lenses and replace them with an intraocular lens implant in each eye so that, after recovery, he will be able to see clearly. Our medical partner, Burma Children Medical Fund, is requesting $1,500 to fund this procedure. Klo's mother said: "I want my son to be healthy and not struggle with his condition as he grows older. We are grateful for the help we are receiving."

Mengly is an energetic four-year-old toddler from Cambodia. He lives with his younger sister and grandmother in Kampong Speu province. His parents work in a shoe factory in Kandal province because they could not find jobs in their home province. They visit their children as often as possible and send home money to care for the children. Mengly does not attend school yet, but he enjoys playing with toys and eating anything his grandmother cooks for him. Mengly was born with polydactyly of his right hand. This means that he has an extra thumb. His parents worry that the extra thumb may affect his hand's functionality or make him feel self-conscious as he grows older if it is not treated. Fortunately, on March 11th, surgeons will perform a polydactyly repair procedure to remove the extra thumb. Our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, is requesting $299 to fund this procedure. After surgery, he will be able to use his hand more easily and perform tasks with better dexterity. Mengly's mother said: "I hope that he will be able to use his hand and grab objects well."

Yen is an 81-year-old nun. Widowed during the Khmer Rouge period, Yen was a single mom of two daughters and earned a living by rice farming and odd jobs. Her daughters have married and moved out to nearby villages, but visit often along with Yen's seven grandchildren. She lives in a pagoda in Prey Veng province near the Vietnamese border, where she helps cook, clean, and take care of the cats. In her downtime at the pagoda, she enjoyed reading Buddhist books, but has not been able to read for several months due to deteriorating eyesight. Around three months ago, Yen developed a cataract in her right eye, causing her blurry vision and watery eyes. A cataract is a clouding of the lens of the eye, so it is like looking through a frosty or fogged-up window. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, including colors and faces, and is worried about falling when walking, so is not able to go places on her own. When Yen learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, she traveled for three and a half hours seeking treatment. On December 5th, doctors will perform a small incision cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in her right eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. She and her family are able to contribute towards the cost of her treatment, but need help raising $228 more to fund the surgery. She shared, "I would like to see more clearly so that I can read again and do my work at the pagoda."

Liezel is a 42-year-old woman from the Philippines. Liezel previously worked as a teacher but decided to take a break due to the emotional impact of losing her parents and a close friend, which affected her ability to work effectively. Her family supports her as much as they can. One year ago, Liezel began to experience troubling symptoms, including severe pain, bloating, and nausea even after drinking a glass of water. She also reported pain in her right side and back, sometimes making it difficult for her to breathe. Initially, these symptoms subsided. However, last month, she again began to feel bloated and frequently belched, and then experienced another severe pain attack. Liezel went to our medical partner's care center, Our Lady of Peace Hospital, for help. She was found to have gallstones and advised to undergo a cholecystectomy, the surgical removal of the gallbladder. If left untreated, her symptoms will continue to worsen and put her at risk for further health complications in the future. Our medical partner, World Surgical Foundation Philippines (WSFP), is helping Liezel undergo surgery on October 26th. A portion of the cost of the procedure is being supported by the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation, and WSFP is raising the remaining $1,128 to cover the cost of Liezel's surgery and care. Liezel shared: "I am grateful for the financial assistance of the foundation, particularly with the anticipated expenses of my surgery. I appreciate your help especially since this will be a significant help during an unexpected and challenging time. I hope that the foundation continues to extend its support to others who are in need."

Michael Angelo is an active, playful two-year-old boy from the Philippines. His mother shared that Michael Angelo loves watching nursery videos on the phone and has shown interest in books at home. His father earns a minimum wage working as a sprinter delivery driver, while his mother is a homemaker. In February 2024, Michael Angelo had pneumonia. The attending physician had a suspicion about the child's medical condition, but to confirm, they were directed to a pediatric surgeon. Michael Angelo was diagnosed with polycystic kidney disease and a further diagnosis of bilateral undescended testes was made. His mother was advised that Michael Angelo would need to undergo orchidopexy procedure to move the undescended testes into the scrotum. This would reduce the risks of infertility and development of cancer. Michael Angelo's condition has already placed financial constraints on his family due to ongoing treatment, lab works and prescribed medications of the new diagnosis. It has also taken an emotional toll on his mother, who wishes that she would be the one experiencing the illness on behalf of her baby. Our medical partner, World Surgical Foundation Philippines, is helping Michael Angelo receive treatment. On May 9th, surgeons at Our Lady of Peace Hospital will perform an orchidopexy procedure, to relocate the testes and improve his quality of life. A portion of the cost of Michael Angelo's treatment is being supported by the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation, but his family still needs help raising $1,212 to fund the procedure. Michael Angelo's mother says: "Despite having an income, we came to a point of financial breakdown when illness struck our baby. There are so many challenges, we prayed every day that someone would come and help us, especially since we do not receive so much help from our families and relatives. We were surprised to receive support from people that did not know us, it was very unexpected. We would like to extend our gratitude to all those who have come to our aid."

Rosette is a social and engaging lady. She is a mother to two sons; one works in business and her younger son is in school studying. Rosette lost her husband a few years back; however, with farming, she has managed to raise her children. For the past three years, Rosette has been experiencing severe lower abdominal pain, backache, and vaginal bleeding. Due to these symptoms, she has become more limited in her activities. She has been diagnosed with an early cancerous cervical lesion, and doctors recommend a hysterectomy, a procedure in which surgeons will remove her uterus. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, requests $219 to fund Rosette's surgery. On February 28th, she will undergo surgery at Karoli Lwanga Hospital. Once recovered, Rosette can resume her work and activities free of pain. Rosette says, "I wish to see my children grow well; however, with such poor health, I can't do much. I thank you for your support and hope to improve after surgery."

Joselito, a 59-year-old father from the Philippines, works as a taxi driver and earns minimum wage. His income is insufficient to provide for his family of five, prompting him to take on extra jobs to make ends meet. Twenty years ago, Joselito began to experience troubling symptoms, including severe pain on the left side of his stomach, which radiated to his back. Initially, he tried drinking a lot of water to ease the pain, and it subsided. When he consulted with a doctor he was asked to take an ultrasound, but could not due to financial constraints. At the onset of an extremely painful episode, Joselito was rushed to a nearby hospital and was diagnosed with gallstones. He was advised to undergo a cholecystectomy, the surgical removal of the gallbladder. He was informed that if left untreated, his symptoms would continue to worsen and put him at risk of further health complications in the future. Unable to cover the cost of the necessary surgery, he was prescribed pain medication instead. Fortunately, Joselito then sought treatment through our medical partner, World Surgical Foundation Philippines (WSFP). He is scheduled to undergo a cholecystectomy on March 27th. A portion of the cost of the procedure is being supported by the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation, and Jose is seeking support for the remaining $1,128. Joselito says, "Since I started to feel the symptoms attack more often, I had to reduce my work hours and this took a toll on the family's income and expenses. While my family worries about my health, I am worried that I will not be able to give them what they need because of my condition, so I deeply appreciate the assistance I am receiving for my medical care."

Amor is a widower and mother of two from the Philippines. She works as a laundrywoman, earning barely enough for her family's needs. During her free time, Amor loves singing and spending time with her neighbors. One year ago, Amor began to experience troubling symptoms, including abdominal pain which affected her back. Last March 2024, the pain became intolerable and Amor decided to consult with a doctor in her barangay where she was diagnosed with cholecystitis or stones in her gall bladder. Amor has been advised to undergo a cholecystectomy, the surgical removal of the gallbladder. If left untreated, her symptoms will continue to worsen and put her at risk for further health complications in the future. After seeking treatment through our medical partner, World Surgical Foundation Philippines (WSFP), Amor is scheduled to undergo a cholecystectomy on July 5th. A portion of the cost of the procedure is being supported by the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation, and WSFP is raising the remaining $1,128 to cover the cost of Amor's surgery and care. Amor shared: "Thank you very much that you are able to help people like us who have no means to get treatment. God bless you all!"

Anne, a seven-month-old baby from Kati, is adored by her parents and three siblings. Anne was diagnosed with hydrocephalus, a condition in which excess cerebrospinal fluid accumulates in the brain and increases intracranial pressure. She previously underwent surgery to correct the condition, but the surgery was unsuccessful. She requires a shunt to drain excess fluid from the brain and reduce intercranial pressure. Without treatment, Anne will experience severe physical and developmental delays. Our medical partner, Project Medishare, is helping Anne receive treatment at Hospital Bernard Mevs, the only site in the country where this care is currently available. On April 10th, surgeons will perform a ventriculoperitoneal shunt (VPS) surgery, giving an opportunity for Anne to grow into a strong and healthy young girl. Now, Anne's family needs help to fund this $957 procedure. Anne's mother says: "I hope this surgery will allow my daughter to grow up healthy"

Visal is a 16-month-old boy from Cambodia. He lives with his parents and brother in Kep province. His father works as a construction worker, while his mother works as a grocery seller and cares for the children at home. At home, Visal enjoys playing with his older brother and taking naps. In September 2023, Visal suffered a burn injury from hot water on his right finger. Now, burn scar contractures have developed, tightening the 2nd and 3rd fingers of his right hand. It is difficult for him to grab objects, and limits the function of his hand. When Visal's family learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), they traveled for two and a half hours seeking treatment. On April 25th, surgeons at CSC will perform a burn contracture release surgery to help him use his hand easily again. Visal's family is able to contribute $100 but needs help to raise $395 more to fund this procedure. Visal's father shared, "I hope my son will be able to use his hand easily again and have no problems in the future."

Vin is a 16-year-old teenage boy from Cambodia. He lives with his parents and his older sister in Kampong Speu Province. His mother is a housewife and his father is a rice farmer. His 21-year-old sister has a job at a clothes factory in the province. Vin dropped out of school in 7th grade and now helps his father on the rice farm. Vin's favorite meal is fried pork. In his free time, he enjoys playing soccer. When Vin was one year old, he suffered a hot water burn on his left hand, which resulted in skin contractures. This occurs when the burn scar matures, thickens, and tightens, preventing movement. After the accident, Vin's mother took him to a nearby health center, but she couldn't afford further treatment due to money issues. Burn scar contractures have developed slowly around his hand, tightening the skin and making it difficult for Vin to use his hand. When Vin learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), he traveled for two and a half hours seeking treatment. On May 14th, surgeons at CSC will perform a burn contracture release surgery to improve the dexterity and use of his left hand. Vin's family has contributed $40 to his healthcare and needs help to raise $455 more to fund this procedure. Vin said, "I hope I can move my fingers again and help my father on our rice farm. I want to support the family so my father does not have to work so hard."

Lekere is a joyful 7-year-old from Kenya who is in the second grade. She is the firstborn in a family of five children. Lekere's favorite activities are playing with other kids and writing. Her father is a herder, and her mother is a homemaker. Lekere was born with clubfoot of her left foot. Clubfoot is a condition in which the foot is twisted out of shape, which causes difficulty walking and even wearing shoes. Currently, Lekere tiptoes as she walks and often falls while walking, making it difficult for her to engage with her peers fully. Lekere has been undergoing serial casting for five weeks as part of her healing process. The purpose of serial casting is to soften the tissue to achieve better results after surgery. Lekere is scheduled for clubfoot repair surgery on November 28th. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare (AMH), is requesting $1,286 to fund Lekere's clubfoot repair surgery. After treatment, she will be able to walk well, play with her peers at home and in school, and continue growing into a strong, healthy young girl. Lekere's mother said, "My joy is seeing my girl walking normally like other children."
