Meet Neisha, a one-year-old girl from Haiti. Fifteen days after her birth, her mother saw that her daughter’s eyes did not appear normal. Neisha’s head enlarged after three months, and she started experiencing seizures. After their second visit to the hospital, Neisha was diagnosed with hydrocephalus, or excess fluid in the brain.
Neisha requires a shunt placement, which “will fix the drainage problem and cancel excess fluids in the future, and considerably treat the seizures caused by the hydrocephalus,” says our medical partner, Project Medishare (PM). The surgery will cost $1260.
After treatment, “Neisha will be able to work normally and enjoy a good childhood,” explains PM. “The treatment will save her life and give her access to grow up healthy.”
Neisha’s parents are both 22 years old, and neither have stable jobs. Due to their limited income, they cannot come up with the funds for this life-saving surgery for their daughter.
“I am excited to see my baby healed and able to walk and go to school in the future,” shares Neisha’s mother. “My wish is to see her growing up healthy and happy.”

Neisha received treatment for her hydrocephalus.
“Neisha will be able to keep a normal head as there won’t be continuity of the excess fluids in her brain,” explains Neisha’s doctor. “She will grow up and be able to go to school as her family is expecting.”
“I feel very happy,” Neisha’s mother says. Neisha’s mother was a bit scared when they took her daughter into the operating room, but she now feels good knowing that Neisha is already showing signs of improvement. “I can see some direct changes after surgery,” she says. “My baby’s forehead is less large, her head was bigger before the surgery, and her eyes are better now and her view [vision] is improving.”
Neisha’s mother continues, “I feel very good and excited to see more results [that] the surgery is producing to my daughter’s life. She is my first child and I would love to see her living a healthier life; I cannot wait to go back home with her and rejoin my family. Part of my goals for now is to better take care of Neisha, and I will go to church with her and pray God to watch over Neisha and help her during her life. My wish is to see her able to walk normally. Thank you very much for the treatment.”
