Grace is a 35-year-old woman from Uganda. She currently engages in small-scale farming together with her husband. Two years ago, Grace began to experience troubling symptoms, including lower abdominal pain, which has prevented her from carrying out her farming activities because she is unable to bend. She visited different clinics but was only given painkillers that did not help. She also tried using local herbs, but all was in vain. Grace attended a community outreach program, where she received information that her condition could be treated at our medical partner's care center, Rwibaale Health Center. At the hospital, she was diagnosed with an ovarian mass. Physicians recommend surgery to remove the mass. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $230 to fund Grace's surgery. On February 13th, she will undergo mass removal surgery, which should greatly improve her quality of life. Grace says, "I hope to get rid of pain and resume my duties as a farmer."

Sebit is an 11-year-old student from South Sudan. His father is a fisherman, and his mother is currently unemployed. Living in a remote region of South Sudan, the family is located far from specialized medical care. In September 2021, Sebit fell from a tree while playing with his friends. He landed chin-first and injured his mouth, biting through his lower lip and bleeding heavily. At first, he did not seem to be in pain, but about a month later, both sides of his cheeks began to swell. From that point on, Sebit could no longer open his mouth well. Simple activities such as talking, laughing, and eating became extremely difficult. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors diagnosed him with a jaw fracture and recommended surgery. However, due to the complexity of the procedure, the surgery could not be performed at local facilities. Sebit was given pain medication and sent home. For the past five years, Sebit has lived in this condition. He speaks in low tones, eats slowly in very small portions, and avoids sleeping on either side of his face because of the discomfort. The swelling in his cheeks comes and goes, often leaving him in pain and distress. Sebit slowly adapted to this painful new reality, uncertain whether his condition was improving or worsening with time. Hope finally arrived when a well-wisher learned about Sebit’s condition and referred the family to our medical partner's care center, AIC Kijabe Hospital. This meant the family had to travel from South Sudan to Kenya for treatment, and the well-wisher helped cover the cost of their journey. After undergoing scans at our hospital, doctors discovered that Sebit’s jaws had fused and locked together, preventing him from opening his mouth. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner can help. On May 14th, Sebit will undergo a mandible reconstruction surgery to restore movement to his jaw and help him eat, speak, and live healthier again. Now, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $1,115 to fund this procedure. Sebit says, “Whenever I try to open my mouth, I feel pain. I have to eat very slowly and only in small portions.”

Beatrice is 46 years old and lives in Malawi. She is a single mother of two children and a grandmother to one. She earns a living through small-scale farming, growing vegetables and maize when the season allows. What she harvests is what sustains her home. For the past year, Beatrice has been struggling with her health. She has endured prolonged and heavy bleeding, often leaving her weak and exhausted. Alongside this, she began to feel a lump in the lower left side of her abdomen. At first, she tried to brave through the discomfort, but in February 2026, the pain became intense and impossible to ignore. An ultrasound scan revealed multiple uterine masses as well as an inguinal mass. Presently, the ongoing bleeding has also left her anaemic. Beatrice was started on treatment at our medical partner's care center, Nkhoma Hospital, to stabilize her condition. After a month of care, her hemoglobin has improved from 8 to 10, giving her strength in preparation for surgery. Doctors have now advised that she urgently needs a total abdominal hysterectomy to address the problem. Beatrice's surgery has been scheduled for May 7th. For her, this is the hope she has been holding on to, a chance to live without constant pain and weakness. But the surgery cost of $651 stands in her way. With no stable income beyond her small harvests and no close family to turn to for financial help, she has not been able to raise any funds for the procedure. Beatrice's hope is for a chance to undergo the surgery and return to a life where she can care for her children and grandchild, without the burden of illness. She said, “I have been weak for a long time, and it has not been easy to look after my family like this. I want to be strong again and live without this pain. I am hoping that I will receive support and get this surgery.”
