Theany is a 31-year-old farmer with four siblings, including one brother and three sisters. She lives with her mother, while her father sadly passed away many years ago. In her free time, she enjoys watching television, reading books, and cooking. Three years ago, Theany developed a mass on her face. Six months ago, she had a biopsy at a local hospital and was diagnosed with an ameloblastoma, or a rare benign tumor in the jawbone that often grows aggressively. She experiences swelling and pain, it is difficult for her to eat or drink, and her self-esteem has fallen dramatically. Fortunately, our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), is helping Theany to receive treatment. She traveled to CSC's care center where, on December 3rd, surgeons will remove the mass. Now, Theany needs help raising $231 to fund her procedure and care. Theany shared that she hopes after surgery her face will look normal, and she will have no pain.

Sam is a 12-year-old student from Cambodia, and the third of four siblings in her family. Her mom sells food at the local market and her dad is a tuk tuk driver. She is in grade 6 at her primary school. Sam's best subjects are Khmer and English literature and she wants to be a teacher when she grows up. In her free time she enjoys playing games and watching TV. Five years ago, Sam had an ear infection. This infection caused the tympanic membrane, or the ear drum, in both ears to perforate. For this reason, Sam experiences pain, ear discharge, and hearing loss. She has difficulty communicating with others and the ear infection occasionally causes her a high fever. She is no longer attending school because of her worsening condition. Sam traveled to our medical partner's care center to receive treatment. On April 30th, she will undergo a myringoplasty procedure in both ears. During this procedure, surgeons will close the perforations. Our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, is requesting $913 to fund this procedure. This covers medications, supplies, and inpatient care. "I hope that my daughter's surgery will be successful so she can go back to school," Sam's mother said.

This baby girl is five-month-old Winfrida of Tanzania. Shortly after birth, Winfrida was diagnosed with hydrocephalus, a condition in which excess fluid builds up in the brain. As a result, extra pressure is placed on the nerves and blood vessels in the brain, and the patient is at increased risk of developmental problems or vision loss. "Winfrida is getting less and less active and frequently throws up after being fed," Watsi medical partner Africa Mission Healthcare tells us. "If not treated, Winfrida’s head circumference will continue to grow bigger; she will lose her vision, can get convulsions and will eventually die." Winfrida and her mother live with her mother’s aunt, but together they cannot afford the necessary medical treatment. “It is my great hope that my baby will get well and continue with normal growth,” says Winfrida’s mother. “If at least my baby will be healthy, I’ll do anything to earn some money so that I can help out with the cost of raising a baby.” $690 will fund treatment for Winfrida’s hydrocephalus, and will allow her to regain mobility and have the opportunity to grow into the healthy baby her mother hopes for.
