Vin is a 16-year-old teenage boy from Cambodia. He lives with his parents and his older sister in Kampong Speu Province. His mother is a housewife and his father is a rice farmer. His 21-year-old sister has a job at a clothes factory in the province. Vin dropped out of school in 7th grade and now helps his father on the rice farm. Vin's favorite meal is fried pork. In his free time, he enjoys playing soccer. When Vin was one year old, he suffered a hot water burn on his left hand, which resulted in skin contractures. This occurs when the burn scar matures, thickens, and tightens, preventing movement. After the accident, Vin's mother took him to a nearby health center, but she couldn't afford further treatment due to money issues. Burn scar contractures have developed slowly around his hand, tightening the skin and making it difficult for Vin to use his hand. When Vin learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), he traveled for two and a half hours seeking treatment. On May 14th, surgeons at CSC will perform a burn contracture release surgery to improve the dexterity and use of his left hand. Vin's family has contributed $40 to his healthcare and needs help to raise $455 more to fund this procedure. Vin said, "I hope I can move my fingers again and help my father on our rice farm. I want to support the family so my father does not have to work so hard."

Ky is a retired rice farmer from Kandal province, Cambodia. She is 69 years old and has a son, a daughter, and five grandchildren. Ky lives in a small village with her daughter and her family. Both her daughter and son-in-law work as rice farmers, while Ky stays home to help take care of her grandchildren. In her free time, she enjoys going to the pagoda to pray. About three months ago, Ky developed a cataract in her left eye, causing her itchiness, tearing, and blurry vision. A cataract is a clouding of the lens of the eye, so it is like looking through a frosty or fogged-up window. Ky has difficulty seeing things now, including colors and faces, and is worried about falling when walking, so she is not able to go places on her own. When Ky learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, she traveled for three hours seeking treatment. On July 29th, doctors will perform a small incision cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in her left eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Ky and her family are able to contribute $100 but needs help to raise $153 more to fund the procedure. Ky shared, "I hope after surgery, I can see clearly and not be afraid to go out on my own. I want to plant vegetables around my home to sell at the market so I can help support my family."

Thin is a 48-year-old woman from Thailand. She lives with her husband and her son and daughter in Tak Province, Thailand. She works at a hair salon shop. Thin's husband has chronic diabetes and foot issues that prevent him from working. Thin's two children are students. In November 2022, Thin noticed a mass in her left breast. She went to a clinic where the medic examined her breast and told her that she needed to go to our medical partner's care center, Mae Sot Hospital, for further investigation. Due to financial issues, Thin waited. As the mass grew bigger, it was causing pain. When she could no longer bear the pain, Thin went to Mae Sot Hospital where doctors recommended that Thin undergo a CT scan, a procedure in which x-ray images taken from several angles are combined to produce cross-sectional images of the body, to receive a diagnosis. This scan will hopefully help doctors diagnose her condition and formulate an appropriate treatment plan. Our medical partner, Burma Children Medical Fund, is requesting $414 to cover the cost of Thin's CT scan and care, scheduled for September 20th. Thin said, "Thank you for helping and I would like to receive surgery soon so that I can work as I am the sole earner for my family."
