Chhally is a 14-month-old toddler from Cambodia. He is from Kampot province and has two older brothers who are in primary school. His parents sell food alongside the road, including rice and fried dishes, catering to factory workers. He enjoys drinking milk and is an active child who loves walking, running, and playing with his siblings. Chhally has been diagnosed with Erb’s Palsy, a condition resulting from nerve damage during his difficult birth. This has caused tightness and weakness in the muscles of his arm, making it turn inward and remain close to his body. His diagnosis includes a brachial plexus injury on the right side, which affects the network of nerves responsible for transmitting signals from the spine to the shoulder, arm, and hand. Damage to this nerve network can lead to loss of function and sensation. He is unable to move the fingers on his right hand and relies on his left hand for tasks requiring hand movement. His wrist and fingers are bent, making it difficult for him to use his hand or move his fingers. Chhally traveled to our medical partner's care center, Kien Khleang National Rehabilitation Centre, to receive treatment. This is the only center in the whole country where this treatment is available. On February 14th, he will undergo a brachial plexus repair surgery. After recovery, his parents hope he will be able to use his arm. Our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, is requesting $709 to fund this procedure. Chhally's mother said: "I want to see him grow up healthy like other children and be able to use his right arm easily."

Vutha is a 32-year-old metal worker from Cambodia. He is married and has two children. His wife works in a nearby garment factory in Kandal province. In his free time, Vutha enjoys fishing by the nearby river. Two months ago, while at work, Vutha had a sudden electrical surge sear through his body, leaving devastating burns on both hands and his left leg. His coworkers rushed him to the hospital, where doctors tried to save his hands, but both hands had tissue destruction and infection. Gangrene rendered his right hand non-salvageable. Doctors amputated his right hand and performed a Krukenberg operation, converting his right forearm stump into a pincer, to retain some dexterity of the hand rather than it being reduced to a stump. His left hand was debrided of dead tissue. Two weeks ago, it was noted the wounds on his right stump were not healing, and there was further damage to his semi-functional left hand. Due to the extent of his injuries, he cannot use both arms. He is in pain and now needs further surgery. Vutha learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), and sought help. On January 14th, surgeons at CSC will perform a stump revision shortening and debridement on his right forearm and debridement and curettage of his left hand to remove the dead bone and tissue. Doctors hope to improve the healing process of his right forearm and provide more functionality in his left hand. Vutha needs help to raise $780 to fund his procedure and care. Vutha said: "I hope my hand does not get any worse and I can find a job when I go home."
