Kanhchana is an eight-year-old Grade 4 student from Cambodia. She is the only child in her family. Her father is a rice farmer, while her mother works in a garment factory. She enjoys mathematics at school and likes playing with toys alongside her cousins. Her favorite meal is fried pork with ginger. When Kanhchana was three years old, she suffered a hot-water burn to her left hand. After being treated at a private clinic, the burn healed with scarring that caused her fingers to contract. She later had contracture release and skin grafting, but tightness remains between several fingers, particularly between the third and fourth fingers. Burn scars have caused contractures affecting the second through fifth fingers of her left hand. The tight webspace between her middle and ring fingers limits how comfortably she can use her hand. Her mother is also concerned that her daughter may become self-conscious about the appearance of her hand as she gets older. When Kanhchana's family learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, they traveled for three hours seeking treatment. On September 15th, surgeons at CSC will perform a burn contracture release surgery to loosen the tight area between her third and fourth fingers, helping her use and move her left hand more comfortably. Now, she needs help to fund this $652 procedure. Kanhchana's mother said, “I hope this surgery will help improve my daughter’s hand and make it easier for her to use her fingers. I also worry that she may feel shy about her hand as she grows older, so I hope the treatment will help her feel more comfortable and confident.”

Mahamadou is a four-year-old boy from Mali. For the past year, Mahamadou has been experiencing an inguino-scrotal hernia, a condition where abdominal tissue protrudes through a weak spot in the abdominal wall and extends down into the scrotal sac. He also has a hydrocele. These conditions have been causing him swelling and much discomfort. Fortunately, on April 23rd, Mahamadou will undergo hernia repair surgery at our medical partner's care center. Our medical partner, Muso, is requesting $611 to fund Mahamadou's surgery. Once completed, this procedure will hopefully allow him to live a healthier life. Mahamadou's parents shared, "We hope that this treatment will make the swelling and discomfort disappear."

Thon is 47 years old and a construction worker from Cambodia. He is married and has three children who work in a furniture factory. In his free time, Thon enjoys planting vegetables around his home. Thon sustained an open fracture of the left tibia and fibula along with a degloving injury of the left hand following a recent road traffic accident. Immediately after the accident, he received treatment at a government hospital, and his injuries were temporarily stabilized. He still needs a skin graft on both his left hand and leg to promote proper healing and restore function. He is experiencing pain, difficulty walking, and stiffness. Fortunately, our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, can help. On April 6th, Thon will undergo a skin graft. He can contribute $25, but needs help raising $558 more to fund his procedure and care. Thon said, “I hope that with this skin graft, my hand and leg will heal properly. I want to be able to move and use them without pain, so I can return to my daily life and work.”
