Chanda is 15 years old and has one brother and two sisters. She is the oldest in her family. Her mother sells fried chicken from their home and her father works at a local business. In her free time Chanda enjoys reading books, listening to music, watching TV, and playing with her siblings. Chanda has osteosarcoma. This caused a small mass on her right foot that is slowly growing bigger. It is painful and she can not walk. Surgeons will remove the mass on her foot and take a histology. Chanda's mother said, "I hope the doctors can help my daughter and stop this problem so she can walk again."

Tibijuka is an elderly lady from western Uganda. She is a small-scale farmer together with her husband. Five years ago, Tibijuka sought treatment in a hospital due to lower abdominal pains and scans found that she has uterine fibroids. She was given medication and was hoping that they will heal. Unfortunately, they persisted and she has now sought treatment at Rushoroza Hospital. Her surgeon recommends she have a total abdominal hysterectomy. Without treatment, she will continue experiencing the pain and her productivity on the farm will continue declining. Tibijuka is not able to meet the cost of surgery citing financial limitations and appeals for help.  Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $228 to fund Tibijuka's surgery. On October 14th, she will undergo gynecological surgery at our medical partner's care center. Once recovered, Tibijuka will be able to resume her daily activities free of pain and her quality of life will greatly improve. Tibijuka says, “My family cannot afford the surgery charges. I will resume farming as soon as possible once given treatment.”

Vanny is a 27-year-old rubber farm worker. He lives with his parents, who are also farmworkers, and his younger brother, who is in seventh grade. In his free time he likes listening to music, watching TV, meeting friends, and playing soccer with his brother. In 2019, he was in a motor accident that caused a fracture of his right tibia. Vanny traveled to Vietnam to receive treatment at a hospital, where they installed a plate and screws to repair the fracture. His bone healed well, but Vanny still feels pain when walking and needs to have the hardware removed to eliminate the risk of infection. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, can help. On October 2nd, Vanny will undergo a hardware removal procedure, which will cost $230. This procedure will remove the problematic hardware and keep him from the risk of infection. Vanny said, "My leg has healed, but I hope that after this surgery I can finally work without feeling any pain."

Lon is a 61-year-old wife and mother from Cambodia. Lon has three sons and two grandchildren. She lives with her husband who is a security guard at a car dealership. She enjoys keeping up with the news on her phone. Three years ago, Lon developed a cataract in her right eye, causing her blurred vision, irritation, and photophobia. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, and going anywhere outside. When Lon learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, she traveled there with her son seeking treatment. On September 28th, doctors will perform phacoemulsification and an intraocular lens implant in her right eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $229 procedure. Lon said, "I hope my vision improves so I can be more independent and take care fo my grandchildren."

Tukamuhebwa is a farmer from Uganda. She is a married mother to two children, all studying with the eldest finishing senior year four and her youngest in senior year one. Tukamuhebwa studied and completed senior year four but never proceeded due to lack of school fees. She currently earns a living from farming where she grows food crops like maize, beans and cassava for home consumption but at times sells off the beans to generate an income to the family. She shared that her husband suffers from chronic alcoholism and does not take care of their family. Twenty years ago, Tukamuhebwa began to experience troubling symptoms, including difficulty in breathing, shortness of breathing and rapid heart palpitations. She was diagnosed with a goiter, an abnormal enlargement of the thyroid gland. She needs surgery to prevent her symptoms from getting worse. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is helping Tukamuhebwa receive treatment. She is scheduled to undergo a thyroidectomy on September 8th at our medical partner's care center. Surgeons will remove all or part of her thyroid gland. This procedure will cost $252, and she and her family need help raising money. Tukamuhebwa says: “I think I will regain my health once again after my surgery goes on well and I hope to resume with farming after surgery."

Toeu is a farmer and his wife is weaver. Together they have one daughter. Besides farming, he also supplements his income by selling homemade meals to local factory workers during their break. In his free time, he goes on walks with his daughter and watches TV. In February 2018, he was in a motor vehicle accident that caused a fracture of his right knee and his left tibia. After the accident, his wife brought him to a public hospital where doctors installed nails in his fractures. However, the fractures never healed properly, and he still experiences pain and difficulty walking. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, can help. On August rd, Toeu will undergo a hardware removal procedure, which will cost $230. This treatment will allow his legs to heal completely, so that he will be able to walk easily again. Toeu shared, "I hope that the hardware surgery will go well, so I can go back to my field and continue to sell food again to support my family."

Butakara is a small scale farmer from Uganda and a mother of 5 children. Her first born is now 30 years old, while her youngest is 18 years old. She is proud that all of her children attended school, and two of them finished classes up to secondary school class four. She shared that during her free time, she enjoys taking care of her farm. Around 19 years ago, Butakara began to experience troubling symptoms, including difficulty with breathing. She was diagnosed with a non-toxic goitre. Now, Butakara needs surgery to prevent her symptoms from getting worse. However, the surgery is costly for Butakara and her family. She and her husband are both small scale farmers, as are her children. They are unable to provide additional financial support to her. Butakara appeals for financial help. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is helping Butakara receive treatment. She is scheduled to undergo a thyroidectomy on November 10th at our medical partner's care center. Surgeons will remove all or part of her thyroid gland. This procedure will cost $293, and Butakara and her family need your support. Butakara shared, “I seek financial support for my surgery; I believe I can look normal again after surgery. I will resume farming as soon as possible since it is the major source of our family’s income.”

Yuth is a 59-year-old rice farmer from Cambodia. He has one son, two daughters, and eight grandchildren. He lives together with his whole family, and they all farm together. He enjoys going on walks, taking care of his grandchildren and listening to prayers on the radio. Three years ago, Yuth developed a cataract in his left eye, causing him blurry vision and photophobia. He has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, and going anywhere outside. When Yuth learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, he traveled for four hours seeking treatment. On October 5th, doctors will perform a phacoemulsification cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in his left eye. After recovery, he will be able to see clearly. Now, he needs help to fund this $229 procedure. Yuth said, "My family has worried about me a lot ever since my vision went bad, so I hope that after this surgery I can do everything myself and they won't worry so much."

Vanny is a 39-year-old rice farmer from Cambodia. She and her husband have been married for 21 years and have three sons together, all of whom are still students. She and her husband work on the farm during the rainy season. Her husband works as a taxi driver in the dry season. In her free time, Vanny likes to take care of her garden and cook with her homegrown vegetables. In May 2018, she was in a motor vehicle accident that caused a fracture in her left femur. She had an operation at a local hospital where they repaired her fracture by installing a nail. The fracture healed well but she still feels pain and discomfort where the hardware is installed. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, can help. On August 4th, Vanny will undergo a hardware removal procedure, which will cost $230. This procedure will relieve her pain and allow her leg to heal completely. Vanny shared, "I am thankful to the doctors at Children's Surgical Centre that will help me not feel any more pain in my leg."

Akampa is a small-scale farmer from Uganda. He is married with two children; both in school. He does farming along with his wife to support their family. Akampa came to the hospital with swelling on his right thigh for more than two years. The swelling has been progressively increasing in size as is now painful, sharing that he feels discomfort and disfigurement. Akampa traveled to our medical partner's care center to receive treatment. On July 21st, surgeons will remove the mass. Now, Akampa needs help to raise $196 to fund this procedure. Akampa says “I will glorify God’s name when I’m treated and I become free from this disfigurement. I will continue to farm to support my family.”

Meet Orn, a husband and father of three children from Cambodia. Our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC), shares that Orn has an appreciation for music and enjoys “watching music videos on TV and listening to Khmer classical music on the radio.” “Three months ago, Orn was in a moto accident that left him with a broken arm,” CSC informs us. Due to the humerus fracture sustained from the accident, “he has not been able to work since the accident and he can’t even do much to help around the house. He is so sad because he cannot provide money for his family.” $405 will fund Orn’s operation to surgically correct his humerus. After undergoing surgery, ten days of hospitalization and physiotherapy sessions, “Orn will be able to use his arm again and return to work,” CSC says. Orn is enthusiastic about a successful surgery so that he will once again be able to support his wife, daughter, and sons.

Meet Rom! Rom is 38 years old, and stays at home in Cambodia caring for her only child while her husband works to support the family. “Rom has had ear discharge and chronic ear infections in both ears for the last 35 years,” says our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre. “It is especially bad on her right ear. Every day there is discharge from that ear, and she is in constant discomfort”. As a result of her condition, Rom cannot work or hear clearly. She is very sad that she currently cannot provide any support for her family and she feels guilty that her husband must do all the work. For $399, a simple procedure called a myringoplasty can repair the perforation in her eardrum. After a successful surgery, Rom will no longer have discharge and her hearing will soon return. Let’s support Rom in getting the care she needs to alleviate her discomfort and stress.
