Butakara is a small scale farmer from Uganda and a mother of 5 children. Her first born is now 30 years old, while her youngest is 18 years old. She is proud that all of her children attended school, and two of them finished classes up to secondary school class four. She shared that during her free time, she enjoys taking care of her farm.
Around 19 years ago, Butakara began to experience troubling symptoms, including difficulty with breathing. She was diagnosed with a non-toxic goitre. Now, Butakara needs surgery to prevent her symptoms from getting worse.
However, the surgery is costly for Butakara and her family. She and her husband are both small scale farmers, as are her children. They are unable to provide additional financial support to her. Butakara appeals for financial help.
Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is helping Butakara receive treatment. She is scheduled to undergo a thyroidectomy on November 10th at our medical partner’s care center. Surgeons will remove all or part of her thyroid gland. This procedure will cost $293, and Butakara and her family need your support.
Butakara shared, “I seek financial support for my surgery; I believe I can look normal again after surgery. I will resume farming as soon as possible since it is the major source of our family’s income.”
