Derly is a 10-year-old girl who lives with her mother in a village in Antioquia, Colombia. She lives with congenital glaucoma, a condition that has required ongoing medical care since she was very young. In addition, about one year ago, she was evaluated by a pediatric dentist, who found multiple deep dental cavities. Since then, Derly has remained under observation. However, the progression of the disease has been unfavorable, leading to significant complications in her oral health. Currently, Derly experiences intense and persistent pain, inflammation, as well as difficulty eating and falling asleep, which impacts her quality of life. The medical team has advised for her to undergo dental treatment under general anesthesia to ensure a comprehensive, safe, and effective procedure. Derly will be receiving support from our medical partner, Clinica Noel. She is scheduled to undergo treatment on May 20th, and Clinica Noel is requesting $1,109 to cover the cost of this procedure. Derly’s mother expressed: "I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your support; it is a great blessing. Thanks to this noble gesture, Derly will be able to receive the treatment she so desperately needs and, with it, regain her smile and the quality of life that every child deserves. Gutema is a 23-year-old man from Ethiopia, married with one daughter. He works as a day laborer, a physically demanding job that requires him to use his full strength and mobility every day, typically at construction sites. Recently, Gutema was diagnosed with a severe infection in his thighbone that causes painful swelling. This condition has left him unable to perform the physical tasks his work demands. Because his income depends entirely on his ability to work each day, his family is now in a challenging situation. Without his mobility, his livelihood and his family’s stability is now at serious risk. The bone infection also causes him intense pain. Following Gutema's review at our medical partner's care center Saglan Wajee General Hospital, doctors have recommended that he undergoes a sequestrectomy, a surgical procedure involving the removal of fragments of infected dead bone or tissue. If not treated, it can lead to recurrent infections that may result in life-threatening complications. Fortunately, on June 4th, Gutema will undergo repair surgery at our medical partner's care center. Our medical partner, Saglan Wajee General Hospital, is requesting $900 to fund Gutema's surgery. Once completed, this procedure will alleviate his symptoms and prevent serious long-term complications. "My family cannot afford to lose my ability to work, as I am responsible for everything in our home. The pain and the stress of not being able to provide for them is overwhelming. This surgery is the key to saving my livelihood," said Gutema.

Agness is 59 years old and a farmer from Malawi. She is married with nine children. Eighteen years ago, Agness began to experience troubling symptoms, including a small lump on her neck that grew bigger over time, causing problems with swallowing meals. She visited the nearest hospitals, where she was given some medications after the diagnosis of goiter was made, yet to no avail. With time, she couldn't carry heavy items on her head, concentrate on farm work, and was always tired. She was then referred to our medical partner's care center, Partners in Hope Medical Center (PIH), for support. Agness was diagnosed with a goiter, an abnormal enlargement of the thyroid gland. The thyroid is the gland located in front of your neck and produces thyroid hormones. These hormones are responsible for functions such as metabolism, growth, and other bodily functions. She needs surgery to prevent her symptoms from getting worse. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is helping Agness receive treatment. On March 10th, she will undergo a thyroidectomy, where surgeons will remove all or part of her thyroid gland. This procedure will cost $1,015, and she and her family need help raising money. "Words fail me; thank you in advance, you have space in heaven; your care has already given me hope that all will be well in the end," Agness said.
