Samoeun is a loving grandmother from Cambodia. She lives with her husband, who works as a cleaner at the local market. Together, they have two sons, three daughters, and nine grandchildren. Samoeun previously sold eggs at the market, but her declining vision forced her to stop. Now, she stays at home and enjoys listening to the monks pray on the radio. About eight months ago, Samoeun developed a cataract in her left eye, causing her itchiness, tearing, and blurry vision. A cataract is a clouding of the lens of the eye, so it is like looking through a frosty or fogged-up window. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, including colors and faces, and is worried about falling when walking, so is not able to go places on her own. When Samoeun learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, she traveled for three hours seeking treatment. On June 7th, doctors will perform a phacoemulsification cataract surgery, and an intraocular lens implant in her left eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $203 procedure. Samoeun said, "I hope after surgery I can see better, recognize the faces of my grandchildren, and help my husband at the market."

Thea is a 23-year-old kitchen assistant from Cambodia who lives with his older brother, his sister-in-law, and two-year-old niece in Phnom Penh City. His brother delivers ice to clients, while his sister-in-law stays home to care for their daughter. In his free time, Thea enjoys playing with his niece and watching videos on his phone. Three and a half years ago, Thea and a younger brother were involved in a motor vehicle accident that claimed his brother's life. Thea suffered an open fracture of his right lower leg. He was initially sent to a local hospital where external fixator hardware was applied to his leg to support the healing of the bone. Unfortunately, the hardware became infected, leading to exposed bone and an unhealed fracture. The area around the wound has dead tissue, and Thea now experiences significant discomfort. He walks in pain and is no longer able to work. After learning of our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), Thea traveled for one and a half hours seeking treatment. On September 3rd, surgeons at CSC will perform a skin graft procedure to repair the infected unhealed fracture, remove the hardware, and cover the leg with a medial gastrocnemius skin flap and split-thickness skin graft (STSG). The total cost of the surgery is $487, and Thea is seeking help to fund the procedure. Thea shared: "I hope to walk again and return to work soon to support my parents."

Meet Sikuzani, a one-month-old baby girl from Tanzania. Sikuzani was born with bilateral clubfoot, where both her feet are twisted and out of shape. Without treatment, Sikuzani will have challenges with crawling, walking, playing, and wearing shoes. Sikuzani was referred to our medical partner's care center, Kafika House, for treatment and care. On September 13th, Sikuzani will start manipulation and casting to correct both feet. However, her parents are unable to afford her treatment and are seeking assistance. The treatment will cost $341 and our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, needs your help. Sikuzani’s mother says: “Please help with my daughter’s treatment because this is new to us, and we would love to see her live a good life.”
