Milki is a joyful 2-year-old boy from Ethiopia. His laughter fills the air and he beams with happiness and warmth as he plays with his family. Six months ago, Milki and his older sister were adopted by his biological mother’s close family friends after his mother passed away. His family practices farming, managing two oxen and cultivating their rented land. This income sustains their family throughout the year to meet their basic needs.
Milki was born with an anorectal malformation, a congenital abnormality that leads to a complete or partial intestinal blockage. He needs to undergo a series of procedures to eliminate bowel dysfunction.
Fortunately, his family had heard of Bethany Kids Myungsung Christian Medical Centre (BKMCM) and its life-changing services from other families who had benefited from the program, so they came to the hospital. Upon arrival, BKMCM was able to provide the care he needed. Milki underwent a successful colostomy creation, a vital first step toward healing. His adoptive mother felt a renewed sense of hope and confidence that they could navigate the medical challenges ahead.
Now, Milki is scheduled to undergo surgery to correct his condition on October 17th. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $1,500 to cover the total cost of Milki’s procedure and care. After his recovery, Milki will no longer experience bowel dysfunction or be at risk of developing health complications in the future.
Milki’s adoptive mother said, “I hope he gets this procedure and heals. I hope he grows up and gets an education that helps him become known throughout the world as an excellent and successful doctor.”
