Debora is a three-weeks-old beautiful baby girl and the firstborn child to her young parents. Both parents are small-scale farmers and depend fully on what they harvest for their daily living.
Debora was born with spina bifida, a type of neural tube defect in which the spine does not properly close around the spinal cord. Without treatment, Debora is at risk of lower-limb paralysis, infection of the exposed nervous tissue, development of tethered cord syndrome, and possible developmental delays.
Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $1,015 to cover the cost of Debora’s spina bifida closure surgery. The procedure is scheduled to take place on November 2nd. This procedure will hopefully spare Debora from the risks associated with her condition, instead allowing her to grow and develop along a healthy trajectory.
Debora’s mother shared with us, “Please help my daughter I am scared. I would love to see my daughter grow up into a big girl but this condition is putting her life at risk.”

Debora underwent spina bifida treatment.
Debora had a successful surgery that helped repair her spina bifida condition that she was born with. She is currently doing well and receiving on-going care to change the dressings on her wound as it heals. Five days after her surgery Debora had to return to the hospital unexpectedly to have a debridement procedure to clean her wound which appeared in danger of serious infection, but she is now doing much better.
Through this treatment Debora has been saved from having her spine infected which could put her in danger of losing limb movement or even lead to death.
Debora’s mother says, “Thank you for saving my daughter’s life by helping fund her treatment cost which we couldn’t afford. She is now doing fine and healing well. God bless you. ”
