Sokim is a 39-year-old rice farmer, who lives with her husband and three children in Cambodia. Her husband also works as a rice farmer, and their three children are in school. On September 28th, Sokim was washing the family's motorcycle when she slipped and fell, injuring her left leg. At a clinic X-rays were performed, which showed that she had a previously undiagnosed tumor on her left femur. Since then, she has been in constant pain and cannot walk. Because she was not able to afford any treatment, she was referred to our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, where a biopsy showed a chondrosarcoma of the distal femur. This is a common type of bone cancer that originates in cartilage cells and primarily affects adults. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner can help. The doctors at the clinic referred Sokim to our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, for further treatment. After additional evaluation, Sokim has been scheduled to undergo surgery on October 19th, at Kien Khleang National Rehabilitation Center, during which the tumor will be removed and her femur repaired. Now, Sokim and her family are seeking $726 to fund Sokim's surgery and care. Sokim hopes that she will be able to walk without pain and continue with her rice farming after she has recovered.

Jhon lives in a city in the mountains of central Bolivia. His mother is a homemaker, and his father is a farmer. Shortly after Jhon was born, his parents noticed he was struggling to breathe. He was diagnoses with Tetralogy of Fallot, a condition involving a hole between the two lower chambers of his heart and a muscular blockage of one of his heart valves. Through surgery, doctors will patch the hole in his heart and remove the blockage so that blood can flow more normally through his heart and body. Jhon's mother states: "Our family is very hopeful that after this surgery our son will be able to breathe normally and have more energy."

Woodyson is a young student from Haiti. Woodyson lives with his mother and older siblings in central Haiti's rural, mountainous area. He is in the tenth grade and would like to become a teacher. Woodyson has a cardiac condition called rheumatic mitral regurgitation. Woodyson underwent surgery six years ago to replace his aortic valve and repair his mitral valve due to a rheumatic fever that severely damaged his heart. Although his repaired mitral valve served him well for six years, he now needs to have his mitral valve replaced with an artificial implant. The surgery he needs is not possible in Haiti, so Woodyson will fly to the United States to receive treatment. On July 7th, he will undergo cardiac surgery, during which surgeons will remove Woodyson's damaged valve and implant an artificial mechanical valve. Another organization, Baylor Scott and White Heart Hospital is contributing $20,000 to pay for his surgery. Woodyson's family also needs help to fund the costs of surgery prep, travel, and followup. The $1,500 bill covers labs, medicines, checkups, and follow-up appointments. It also supports passport obtainment and the social workers from our medical partner, Haiti Cardiac Alliance, who will accompany Woodyson overseas. Woodyson shared: "I am excited to be able to have this surgery so that I can feel completely normal and healthy again."

Gregon is struggling to hear. He has severe bilateral hearing loss that requires attention. He needs hearing aids for both ears. He attends school, but his mother plans to send him to a special school to learn sign language. With the hearing aids, he will be able to hear well and join the special school where he will learn to speak and study hard. Gregon is an only child raised by a single mother who lives in an urban area in the country's capital, Nairobi. Gregon's Mother says, "He enjoys schooling but cannot recognize voices. My child needs to hear to go to school."

Stephen, a 22-month-old baby from Haiti, holds a special place in his parents' hearts as their beloved firstborn. He finds immense joy in gracing the world with his delightful smiles. Recently, Stephen was diagnosed with hydrocephalus, a condition in which excess cerebrospinal fluid accumulates in the brain and increases intracranial pressure. As a result of his illness, Stephen has been experiencing an increasing head circumference. Without treatment, Stephen will experience severe physical and developmental delays. Our medical partner, Project Medishare, is requesting $957 to cover the surgery cost for Stephen at Hospital Bernard Mevs, which will treat his hydrocephalus. This hospital is the only site in the country where this care is currently available, and the procedure is scheduled for June 20th. This necessary treatment will place a shunt to drain the excess fluid from Stephen's brain to reduce intracranial pressure and improve his quality of life. With proper treatment, Stephen will hopefully develop into a strong, healthy young boy. His parents are excited for their child to be healthy.

Eh is a 58-year-old father of two from Burma. Eh became unemployed following a motorbike accident that left his leg weakened. He now relies on his wife, who sells betel nuts and noodles for support. During his free time, Eh enjoys weaving bamboo baskets. Eh has been diagnosed with multiple large gallstones. He has enduring intense right-sided abdominal pain, accompanied by back pain and a diminished appetite. Due to the pain, he also faces trouble sleeping at night. Eh has been advised to undergo a cholecystectomy, the surgical removal of the gallbladder. If left untreated, Eh's symptoms will continue to worsen and put him at risk for further health complications in the future. After seeking treatment through our medical partner Burma Children Medical Fund (BCMF), Eh is scheduled to undergo his cholecystectomy on September 4th. BCMF is requesting $1,500 to cover the cost of Eh's procedure and care. Eh said, "I stopped working for a year, and I have no income, so I am stressed about my treatment. However, when I learned that BCMF would help me access treatment, I felt very happy. I want to express my gratitude and say thank you to the donors and BCMF for supporting my treatment."

Beatrice is a 31-year-old woman, who lives with her husband and three young children in Kenya. She is a homemaker, while her husband works at a flower farm near their home. Three years ago, Beatrice began to experience troubling symptoms, including a neck swelling. She was diagnosed with a non-toxic, multinodular goiter, which was surgically removed about a month ago. After the mass was biopsied, however, it was determined that Beatrice has papillary thyroid carcinoma, a thyroid cancer commonly caused by genetic factors. She was informed that she would need a total thyroidectomy, to prevent further damage and other disease complications. Unfortunately, the medical insurance provided by her husband's job, won't pay for a second operation in the same year. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is helping Beatrice to access the care that she needs. She is scheduled to undergo a thyroidectomy on July 27th, at AIC Kapsowar Hospital. Surgeons will remove all of her thyroid gland, in a procedure that will cost $936. Beatrice and her family need your help to raise this money. Beatrice says: "I am so broken right now. I feel sorry for myself and my children, as they really need me. I believe I will get well to continue being there for my family.”

Juan, an 11-month-old boy from Bolivia, lives with his mother and five older siblings in a neighborhood in the mountains above La Paz. Juan was born with a cardiac condition called ventricular septal defect, in which a hole exists between the two lower chambers of his heart. Blood leaks through this hole without passing through his lungs to obtain oxygen, leaving him weak and making it difficult for him to gain weight. To address Juan's condition, congenital heart surgery is the only viable treatment option. Skilled doctors at Hospital del Niño Dr. Ovidio Aliaga Uría will perform the surgery by closing the hole in his heart using a patch. However, due to Juan's low weight, the surgeons have determined that it is unsafe to proceed with the procedure. As a result, he will be hospitalized for several weeks before the surgery to receive proper nutritional support, enabling him to gain weight and prepare for the operation. Riyaq is an 18-month-old baby from Kenya. She is the last born in a family of four children. Her mother is a housewife while her father sells water to the community. Riyaq has been diagnosed with hydrocephalus, a condition in which excess cerebrospinal fluid accumulates in the brain and increases intracranial pressure. As a result of her condition, Riyaq has been experiencing an increasing head circumference. Her family was referred to Bethany Kids where an examination was done and surgery recommended. Without treatment, Riyaq will experience severe physical and developmental delays. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $685 to cover the cost of surgery for Riyaq that will treat her hydrocephalus. The procedure is scheduled to take place on February 8th and will drain the excess fluid from Riyaq's brain. This will reduce intracranial pressure and greatly improve her quality of life. With proper treatment, Riyaq will hopefully develop into a strong, healthy young girl. Riyaq’s aunt says, “We have never seen such a condition. We did not know what to do and have given up but coming here has changed us, and we hope that all will be well in the end.”

Mercy is a two-month-old baby who is the only child of two loving parents. Mercy's mother stays at home with her, while her father is a small-scale farmer and cattle breeder. Mercy has clubfoot on her left foot. Clubfoot is a condition in which the foot is twisted out of shape, which causes difficulty walking and even wearing shoes. Fortunately, Mercy traveled to visit our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, where surgeons will perform her clubfoot repair surgery on March 17th. Now African Mission Healthcare Foundation is requesting $935 to fund Mercy's clubfoot repair. After treatment, she will be able to walk easily and live a life free from mobility constraints. Mercy’s mother says, “I hope that our daughter’s future will not be affected by the condition she is born with.”
