Lucia is a baby from southern Bolivia. Her mother stays home with her, and her father is a delivery driver. Lucia was born with a heart condition called coarctation of the aorta. A major blood vessel leading to the heart is too small, which leaves Lucia weak and unable to properly grow. Additionally, she has turner syndrome. Lucia needs surgery to open the aorta to its full size. This will allow blood to flow more easily so she can grow up healthy. Lucia's mother states: "Our family is so happy to know that our daughter can finally have this surgery; we have been hoping for this opportunity since she was born."

Leat is a 37-year-old mother of two and a rice farmer from Cambodia. Her husband also works in the rice fields. They spend their downtime with their two children. Leat enjoys cooking soups, looking after the house, and gardening. In November 2023, Leat fell and dislocated her elbow. She traveled three hours to a clinic for surgery and treatment. Unfortunately, her arm did not heal so she traveled five and a half hours to our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), for consultation. It is difficult for her to use her arm and she is in chronic pain. Fortunately, surgeons at CSC can help. On March 7th, Leat will undergo a fracture repair procedure, which will cost $483. This procedure will restore function in her arm. Leat shared, "I hope I can use my arm again so I can work, care for my children, and help support my family."

Jayden is a 15-month-old baby - full of smiles and jovial. However, it's difficult for him to pass urine, which was diagnosed at birth. He is the only son and his mother is a single parent who is still in school pursuing a hairdressing course. They both live at his grandmother’s home in Western Kenya. Jayden's grandmother works as a laborer getting work when she can. Jayden was born with hypospadias, a birth condition that causes urinary dysfunction. Without treatment, he will continue to experience uncomfortable symptoms and will be at risk of cancer and infertility. Fortunately, Jayden is scheduled to undergo corrective surgery on January 12th. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $847 to cover the total cost of his procedure and care. Jayden's mother says, “My child deserves to grow as a normal kid. The good thing is that this condition can be rectified and he can heal.”
