Barkot is a happy three-year-old boy from Ethiopia. He is playful and active and enjoys playing with other children. Barkot is the fourth child of his parents. His parents are daily laborers, taking on jobs in their neighborhood.
Barkot was born with hypospadias, a condition that causes urinary dysfunction. Without treatment, he will continue to experience uncomfortable symptoms and may be at risk of infertility. Barkot was brought to a health center, where they were informed that they could only undergo surgery in Addis Ababa, the capital city.
As they lived far away, it took some time before Barkot’s family was able to secure support for travel and accommodations. Fortunately, Barkot is scheduled to undergo corrective surgery on September 3rd. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $1,293 to cover the total cost of his procedure and care.
Barkot’s mother said “I hope he will heal and be healthy and strong after the surgery. I will be so happy to see that day.”
