Chheanly is a 29-year-old military service member from Cambodia. He recently got married and lives in Kampong Thom Province with his wife, who works as a farmer. He is the third child of five siblings, and his older siblings are married and live in nearby villages. In his free time, he enjoys playing volleyball with his friends, but he is no longer able to participate because of his injury. In July 2025, Chheanly was involved in a motorcycle accident while transporting food down a mountain, resulting in multiple injuries, including a right clavicle fracture and a severe right brachial plexus injury affecting his entire arm. Since the accident, he has developed a right flail arm with complete weakness, pain, and stiffness. He is unable to move his right shoulder, elbow, wrist, or fingers, leaving the arm nonfunctional. This condition has significantly impacted his daily life, preventing him from performing many activities independently, affecting his ability to continue his military duties, and limiting his participation in activities he previously enjoyed, such as playing volleyball with his friends. When Chheanly learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, he traveled for four hours seeking treatment. On August 6th, surgeons at CSC will perform a joint arthrodesis procedure to fuse his right shoulder joint and to help stabilize his shoulder joint, reduce pain, and improve the position and function of his arm. This procedure will also prepare his arm for future treatments aimed at improving movement and independence. He can contribute $100, but needs help raising $511 more to fund his procedure and care. Chheanly said, “I hope this surgery will improve the stability of my shoulder, reduce my pain, and be the first step toward improving my arm function so I can become more independent and return to my daily life.”

Yeabtsega is a calm and cheerful 10-year-old boy from Ethiopia. He loves playing football and practicing taekwondo. He is passionate about sports and enjoys spending time with his older brother and younger sister. He is currently in Grade 5 and lives with his mother, a single parent who works at a government institution. When he was younger, Yeabtsega's mother noticed that one of his testicles would sometimes appear and disappear. However, as he grew older, she noticed that it was no longer visible. Concerned about her son, she took him to a clinic near their home, where a doctor examined him and performed an ultrasound. The doctor informed her that Yeabtsega needed surgery. Hearing that her son needed surgery was heartbreaking for his mother, especially as she was raising him as a single parent. She began searching for a hospital where he could receive the treatment he needed. She eventually took him to a government hospital, where he was placed on a waiting list for surgery. After about a month, Yeabtsega was referred to BethanyKids Myungsung Christian Medical Centre (BKMCM). His mother shared that it felt as though a heavy burden had been lifted from her shoulders. At BKMCM, the medical team carefully assessed him, and diagnosed him with cryptorchidism, a condition in which one or both of the testicles remains undescended. If left untreated, Yeabtsega has an increased risk of medical complications in the future. Yeabtsega is receiving assistance from our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare (AMH). Fortunately, he is scheduled to undergo corrective surgery on September 4th. AMH is requesting $754 to cover the total cost of his procedure and care. Yeabtsega’s mother said, “Thank you, BethanyKids and donors, for your support. I truly appreciate the work you are doing for children who may not otherwise have the opportunity to receive the surgery they need. Your support gives hope to families like ours. Thank you for giving my son this opportunity. I wish Yeabtsega good health, success, and a bright future. May he grow up to be a healthy and successful young man.”

Daw Win is a 66-year-old woman from Burma who lives with her daughter, grandson, and two granddaughters in Phop Phra District, Tak Province, Thailand. In 2022, the family fled their home in Bago Division, Burma, to escape nearby conflict. Daw Win is a homemaker, and her grandchildren are students. Her daughter is a teacher and also picks up work as a day labourer during school holidays. In late December 2025, Daw Win started experiencing lower abdominal pain and pressure around the mass when sitting. She has frequent urination and cannot sit for long periods of time due to the pain, preferring to lie down on her side. She has been diagnosed with a uterine myoma. She has been advised to undergo a total abdominal hysterectomy, the surgical removal of her uterus and cervix. If left untreated, Daw Win's symptoms will continue to worsen and put her at risk for further health complications in the future. Fortunately, Daw Win is scheduled to undergo her hysterectomy on June 11th. Our medical partner, Burma Children Medical Fund, is requesting $1,500 to cover the total cost of her procedure and care. Once recovered, this surgery will help Daw Win be free from pain and discomfort, and she will be able to spend time with her family and help with household chores comfortably. Daw Win said, "After surgery, I will return home to help with household chores and take care of my grandkids so that my daughter can go back to work full-time.
