Meet Samnang, a second-grader in Cambodia. Samnang is eight years old and has been orphaned, as her parents’ work at the waste facility around Phnom Penh did not make enough to support the costs of raising her. Our partners in the area report, “in her free time, Samnang likes to watch TV and read all kinds of books.”
Samnang has chronic otitis media, or middle ear inflammation. Our partners expand upon her condition, “Samnang has had chronic discharge and ear infections for the last five years. She also has hearing loss in her left ear. The discharge every day has disrupted her attendance at school.”
For $810, we can fund a procedure called a Mastoidectomy, after which the Children’s Surgical Centre states, “The patient will no longer have discharge from her ears, and hopefully her hearing will improve.” Let’s help Samnang get back to school!
