Sarah is a student from Kenya who lives at a girls’ rescue center together with her two sisters. They escaped from forced circumcision that their parents were pushing for and the rescue center secured their child custody rights. However, the center does not have health insurance for the children living there. In 2018, Sarah suffered a snake bite but it was never treated. She healed with contractures on her left wrist and elbow, which has strained her ability to utilize her left hand. Fortunately, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is helping Sarah receive treatment. On June 19th, surgeons at their care center will perform a contracture release surgery. With successful surgery, she will be able to use her hand with a lot of ease. Now, she needs help to fund this $1,176 procedure. Sarah’s guardian says, “Sarah is limited in her left-hand functions. Please assist her.”

Natumanya is a baby from Uganda. He is the youngest of four children. His two older siblings are in school. His parents are farmers. For seven months, Natumanya has had an inguinal hernia. The hernia is painful and growing in size. If not treated, it may result in tissue blockage and strangulation. Fortunately, on May 9, he will undergo hernia repair surgery at our medical partner's care center. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $249 to fund Natumanya's surgery. Once completed, this procedure will hopefully allow him to live more comfortably. His mother says, "After surgery my son will no longer cry at night because what has been disturbing him has been removed."

Sabianca is an eight-month-old baby from Haiti, and the first born in her family. Her mother is 29 years old, and attends school with the dream of becoming a doctor. “[Sabianca's mother] lives with her family and is not working; she explains that her family is poor," says our medical partner, Project Medishare (PM). “Sabianca was normally born and healthy when after two months, her head started swelling and getting abnormally large,” PM explains. A CT scan revealed that Sabianca has hydrocephalus. Hydrocephalus is condition that affects the brain. It is produced by a blockage of cerebrospinal fluid in the brain ventricles. These enlarged ventricles cause the brain to swell and thin. $1260 will fund the treatment Sabianca needs to treat her condition. The treatment includes placing a shunt in her brain to allow the cerebrospinal fluid to drain, so that her head will return to normal size. Without this intervention, Sabianca will have difficulty reaching developmental milestones. This procedure will have a "direct positive impact on the little girl's life," PM continues. "After the treatment the baby will be healthier and live a good childhood."

Meet San! San is 42 years old, and works as a seamstress in Burma to help support her husband and elderly parents. A few months ago, San visited her local midwife because she was experiencing abdominal and back pain, fatigue, and joint pain. All of these symptoms were causing her a great deal of stress as well. San’s midwife referred her to our medical partner, Burma Border Projects, where she was diagnosed with a uterine tumor known as a myoma. San is grateful for this access to care -- she tells us, “the poor always have to struggle to get food daily and at the hospital there are not enough health workers.” San has not been able to work due to the pain and swelling caused by the myoma, and has been additionally distressed because her husband’s truck broke down, making it impossible for him to work as a driver and earn enough to support their family. For $1500, San will have surgery to remove the uterine myoma. After this surgery, her pain and distension will subside and she will be able to return to work and supporting her family. Let's help ensure that San gets the care she needs to alleviate her discomfort and stress.

Meet Samnang, a second-grader in Cambodia. Samnang is eight years old and has been orphaned, as her parents’ work at the waste facility around Phnom Penh did not make enough to support the costs of raising her. Our partners in the area report, “in her free time, Samnang likes to watch TV and read all kinds of books.” Samnang has chronic otitis media, or middle ear inflammation. Our partners expand upon her condition, “Samnang has had chronic discharge and ear infections for the last five years. She also has hearing loss in her left ear. The discharge every day has disrupted her attendance at school.” For $810, we can fund a procedure called a Mastoidectomy, after which the Children’s Surgical Centre states, “The patient will no longer have discharge from her ears, and hopefully her hearing will improve.” Let’s help Samnang get back to school!

Meet Maria! Maria is 52-years-old woman, living in a rural farming community in Guatemala. She raised 11 children, all of whom now live close by and are a constant source of encouragement and pride for her. Every day Maria gets up at 4 a.m. to take care of her family, feed her chickens and pigs - and then walks for 45 minutes to get some exercise and clear her head before the day starts. “Maria was diagnosed with diabetes 5 years ago, but recently her symptoms have worsened dangerously. She suffers from very high blood sugars that leave her dehydrated and in danger of needing hospitalization,” writes our medical partner Wuqu’ Kawoq (WK). With $450, WK will be able to provide treatment to stabilize Maria's blood sugar, prevent severe complications, and establish a stable management plan to keep her safe and healthy for many years to come. Maria is very thankful to have found WK's diabetes program, and she tells us that she is "confident that I will get better, with your help!"
