Meet Samnang, a second-grader in Cambodia. Samnang is eight years old and has been orphaned, as her parents’ work at the waste facility around Phnom Penh did not make enough to support the costs of raising her. Our partners in the area report, “in her free time, Samnang likes to watch TV and read all kinds of books.” Samnang has chronic otitis media, or middle ear inflammation. Our partners expand upon her condition, “Samnang has had chronic discharge and ear infections for the last five years. She also has hearing loss in her left ear. The discharge every day has disrupted her attendance at school.” For $810, we can fund a procedure called a Mastoidectomy, after which the Children’s Surgical Centre states, “The patient will no longer have discharge from her ears, and hopefully her hearing will improve.” Let’s help Samnang get back to school!

Meet Pamellah! 32-year-old Pamellah lives with her husband and two children in Kenya. When she’s not caring for her children, she’s working with her husband on their small-scale farm. Happily married for over 12 years, Pamellah and her husband are now expecting their third child. Pamellah’s pregnancy is going well but she has been experiencing typical symptoms like morning sickness and mood swings. Pamellah wants to ensure she and her third child get off to the healthiest start possible. She hopes to receive important health education and deliver her baby at a medical center with trained health personnel. Pamellah and her husband currently can’t afford to fund a hospital delivery. June is a sweet, 11-day-old baby girl from Kenya. June was born with spina bifida and has an open mass on her back that puts her at risk for infection and other serious complications. If not treated, June could develop a tethered cord, which will causes the abnormal curving of the spine known as kyphosis or scoliosis. June's mother is still in high school, so her grandparents are taking care of the baby. Unfortunately, the cost of treatment for June is out of the family's reach. “I wish I was in a position to take care of my daughter myself" said June's mother. "I pray that she can get the treatment she needs.” For $980, we can make that hope a reality by covering the cost of a surgery to close the wound on June's back.
