Maria is a 28-year-old woman from Uganda. Maria has spent years trying to rebuild her life after losing her only child and undergoing two major abdominal operations. Today, she runs a small soft-drinks business to support herself and help care for her sister’s two children. She operates this business out of her own home. However, a painful swelling on her abdomen has begun interfering with the very business she depends on to survive. Maria underwent two abdominal operations, the first four years ago and the last one year ago. But for the past eight months, Maria continues to experience a painful swelling around her navel at the site of her previous abdominal surgery. The pain becomes particularly troublesome when she sits for long periods, laughs, or speaks. She has not received treatment for the swelling, and it has increasingly affected her ability to attend to her customers. At times, the pain becomes so severe that she has to close her business, losing the little income she depends on. On November 3rd, Maria will undergo hernia repair surgery with the help of our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare. This procedure and care will cost $170, and Maria needs your help. Maria shares, “I have gone through two major operations, and the money I spent on treatment left me with almost nothing. Now I have this painful swelling, and sometimes I have to close my business because I cannot bear the pain. I depend on this small business to survive and to help care for my sister’s children, but I cannot afford another operation. I kindly appeal to the donors to help me receive the surgery I need. Your assistance would give me a chance to recover, return to my business, and continue caring for the children who depend on me. Veasna is a 39-year-old rice farmer from Cambodia. He is married and lives in Kampong Cham with his wife and their two children. His wife works at a garment factory, their first child is in Grade 3, and their youngest child is 2 years old. He d also takes day labor jobs to help support his family. On April 25, 2026, Veasna was involved in a motorcycle-car accident that caused a fracture of his left humerus. He underwent surgery for his humerus fracture, but afterward, he remained unable to move his left arm and was referred to our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, for further treatment. He has been diagnosed with a brachial plexus injury on his left side. The brachial plexus is a nerve network that transmits signals from the spine to the shoulder, arm, and hand. Injuries to this nerve network can result in loss of function and sensation. He has severe weakness and loss of sensation in his left arm and is unable to actively move his shoulder, elbow, wrist, or fingers. His arm is currently nonfunctional, making it difficult for him to farm, earn an income, and perform everyday activities independently. Veasna traveled to our medical partner's care center, Kien Khleang National Rehabilitation Centre, to receive treatment. This is the only center in the whole country where this treatment is available. On August 11th, he will undergo a brachial plexus repair surgery. After recovery, he will regain some movement and function in his left arm, making daily activities easier and allowing him to become more independent and return to farming. His family can contribute $100, but needs help raising $637 more to fund his procedure and care. Veasna said, “I hope this surgery can help restore some movement and function in my left arm. Even if my arm cannot fully recover, I hope to become more independent, return to farming, and make my daily activities easier.”

Sokkhy is a 58-year-old cashew farmer from Cambodia. He is married and lives in Kampong Cham Province with his wife, who is also a cashew farmer. They have three children, all of whom are married and live in nearby villages. In his free time, he enjoys chatting and drinking tea with his friends in the village. On July 23, 2026, Sokkhy fell from a height and sustained a fracture of his right hip (right femoral neck fracture). He initially sought treatment from a traditional Khmer medicine practitioner, but his condition did not improve. He continues to experience severe pain in his right hip and is unable to stand or walk without assistance. He currently relies on a wheelchair for mobility, which prevents him from returning to his farm and carrying out his daily activities independently. Sokkhy will receive a hip hemi-arthoplasty to help address this issue. A hip hemi-arthoplasty is a partial hip replacement that involves replacing half of the hip joint. Hopefully, this procedure will help Sokkhy move without discomfort. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, evaluated Sokkhy and can perform a hip hemi-arthoplasty on August 4th. This will help relieve Sokkhy of his pain and allow him to walk more easily. His family can contribute $100, but needs help to raise $612 more to fund his procedure and care. Sokkhy said, “I hope this surgery will relieve my pain and help me walk again so I can return to my daily life and take care of my family without depending on others.”
