Daravortey is a three-year-old girl from Cambodia. She is the only child in the family and lives with her parents and grandmother. Her mother works in a nearby bank and her father works as an army officer. Her 69-year-old grandmother stays at home and helps to take care of her. At home, she likes to eat fruit and yogurt, and she enjoys watching cartoons on her mother's phone. In April this year, she injured her left hand on an exercise machine, resulting in contractures on her third and fourth fingers. Now, the scar contractures are still causing redness, and her ring finger remains tight and cannot fully extend. Her parents worry that the burn scar contractures will worsen in the future, making it difficult for her to use her hand effectively. When Daravortey's family learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, they traveled for one hour seeking treatment. On July 5th, surgeons at CSC will perform a contracture release surgery to help her use her hand easily again. Daravortey's family was able to contribute $100 towards her medical costs but need help raising the remaining $387 in funds. Daravortey's grandmother said, "I hope she will feel more comfortable using her hand to play and at school."

Nay is a 13-year-old student from Burma. Nay lives with his grandmother, aunt, and brother, while his parents work in Thailand. In his free time, Nay enjoys playing football with his friends. On August 31st, 2024, Nay accidentally fell while playing with his friends. He fractured his right forearm and now experiences pain and swelling. Due to the bandage applied for stabilization and the pain, Nay has limited mobility on his forearm. With the help of our medical partner, Burma Children Medical Fund, Nay will undergo surgery to reset his fractured bones and ensure proper healing. The procedure is scheduled for September 5th and will cost $1,500. The surgery will help restore the full use of his forearm. Nay expressed his gratitude saying, “Thank you, Watsi, for your help. May God bless you. I want to become a professional footballer when I grow older.”

Maxwell is a farmer from Malawi. Maxwell hails from Lithipe Village of Traditional Authority Kaphuka. He lives with his mother, while his other siblings have left home for their respective marital homes. Every day, he goes about his daily chores, attending to his tomatoes and sugarcane. He prepares his harvest for the market, confident that he will make a reasonable amount of profit. On May 30th, Maxwell was involved in a hit-and-run accident at dusk. He was on his way home from visiting family in a nearby village. He had crossed the road and made it to the pedestrian’s lane when he was hit by a speeding vehicle. Witnesses confirm that the driver of the vehicle did not stop to check on Maxwell. Maxwell was brought to a nearby hospital where he received treatment for the cuts and bruises he sustained. As he also injured his leg, Maxwell was referred to our medical partner's care center, Nkhoma Hospital, for further treatment. Doctors found that he fractured his right leg and needs an open reduction internal fixation surgical procedure was recommended. He is in pain and unable to walk due to the fracture. Fortunately, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, can help. On June 4th, Maxwell will undergo a fracture repair procedure, which will cost $636. This procedure will relieve him of the pain and help him walk easily again. Maxwell says,” I just want to be well again, for the sake of my family whom I worried about so much after the incident. I want them to be relieved that I am out of harm’s way completely.”
