Gilian is a 32-year-old businesswoman from Uganda. She is married with two children and is currently expecting her third. Gilian completed high school and was passionate about becoming a lawyer, but her academic journey was cut short following her father's death. She operates a small retail business, while her husband operates a bodaboda (motorcycle) business. Due to limited capital, Gilian shared that her business has suffered losses; thus, she is unable to raise the funds needed for her surgery. During her free time, she enjoys spending time with her children. Gilian is currently expecting her third child. Her doctors recommended that she deliver via a Cesarean section to ensure the safety of both mother and child. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare (AMH), is helping Gilian undergo a C-Section on February 7th. AMH is requesting $252 to fund this procedure. Gilian said: “I hope to have a successful delivery once given your support because the only worry I had was how I would be able to pay for my delivery."

Ky is a 62-year-old rice farmer from Kompong Thom province. She has six sons and five grandchildren. Currently, she lives with her third son, a construction worker. Since her vision problems developed, she has not gone to work in the rice fields. Instead, she helps care for her grandchildren and, in her free time, she likes to listen to monks chanting on the radio. One year ago, Ky developed a cataract in her left eye, causing her cloudy vision and sensitivity to light. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, including colors and faces, and is worried about falling when walking, thus is unable to travel on her own. When Ky learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, she traveled for three and a half hours seeking treatment. On March 27th, doctors will perform a small incision cataract surgery and implant an intraocular lens in her left eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $253 procedure. She said, "I hope my eyesight can improve so I can work and take care of my family."

Sostine is a 26-year-old waitress. Sostine is the second oldest of 6 children. She lost her parents and three siblings at a young age and could not proceed with her school past grade 6 due to a lack of teachers. She lives alone and works at a local eatery to make ends meet. For two years, Sostine has had an epigastric hernia. She experiences pain and strain when she has to bend or do anything strenuous. She experiences discomfort and pain when she tries to eat a full meal. She came to Nyakibale hospital for care and was recommended surgery as treatment. She appeals for help to undergo surgery. Fortunately, on February 7th, she will undergo hernia repair surgery at our medical partner's care center. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $230 to fund Sostine's surgery. Once completed, this procedure will allow her to live more comfortably and confidently. Sostine says, “I wish my health can be brought back to normal so that I can continue with my work and live a better quality of life.”
