Fanny is two years old and lives in Santo Domingo with her parents. She is their only child. Her father is a bus fare collector, and her mother stays home to care for her. She enjoys cartoons, especially Peppa Pig and Mickey Mouse.
Fanny was born with two related defects in her heart: pulmonic stenosis, in which one of the four valves of the heart is too small, and atrial septal defect, in which a hole exists between the two upper chambers of her heart. These defects combine to make her heart work harder than it should and to prevent enough oxygen from reaching her body, leaving her weak and out of breath.
Although Fanny is not from Haiti, her surgery is taking place in partnership with our medical partner, Haiti Cardiac Alliance. She will need air transportation for her surgery. Her transportation is scheduled for May 22.
Her treatment is being subsidized in the amount of $5,500 by Gift of Life International. However, she still needs $1,500 to fund the overseas transport. Haiti Cardiac Alliance is requesting help from Watsi to raise this money.
“We are excited for this surgery so that Fanny can run and play without having any problems,” says Fanny’s mother.
