Enock is an elderly man from Lilongwe District in Malawi. He is a retired carpenter, who used his skills to build a two-bedroomed house that he rents out for income. He says he is lucky to have a wife who supports him, and grandchildren who keep him on his feet. Two months ago, Enock started experiencing painful urination followed by what felt like a closure of the urethra and he could not pass urine or stool. He sought medical help at a local hospital where he was diagnosed with an enlarged prostate and a catheter was placed. He was given a follow up appointment for five months later and that is when he decided to visit our medical partner's care center Nkhoma Hospital. The diagnosis was confirmed and an open prostatectomy was recommended, which is surgery to remove part or all of the prostate. Unfortunately, Enock is unable to pay the total cost of treatment. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is helping Enock receive treatment. On June 6th, surgeons at Nkhoma Hospital will perform a prostatectomy, relieving him of his symptoms and improving his quality of life. Enock is able to contribute $57.77 towards the cost of his treatment and needs help raising $530 more to fund the procedure. Enock says, " I am hopeful that the surgery will provide me relief and I will be able to function normally again.”

Jennifer is a single parent from the Philippines. Jennifer lives with her mother and son. She works as an office staff and serves as the main provider for her family. Her mother receives a small monthly pension and helps her with the family expenses. Jennifer loves doing household chores in her free time. One year ago, Jennifer began to experience troubling symptoms, including pain on the abdominal side of her body that affected her back. Jennifer was diagnosed with chronic calculous cholecystitis or gallstones. Jennifer has been advised to undergo a cholecystectomy, the surgical removal of the gallbladder. If left untreated, her symptoms will continue to worsen and put her at risk for further health complications. After seeking treatment through our medical partner, World Surgical Foundation Philippines (WSFP), Jennifer is scheduled to undergo a cholecystectomy on September 14th. A portion of the cost of the procedure is being supported by the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation, and WSFP is raising the remaining $1,128 to cover the cost of Jennifer's surgery and care. Jennifer says "Thank you very much to all of you who will donate for my surgery. Thank you very much for your generosity. This will greatly affect our lives as I will be able to function better as a daughter and a mother."

Haymanot is a two-year-old girl from Ethiopia. Her father is a soldier who was called to war when her mom was in the early stages of pregnancy. He left before they knew she was expecting. Her mother earns a living by washing clothes. Since birth, Haymanot has had an umbilical hernia, where the intestine protrudes through the abdominal muscles at the belly button. This occurs if the muscles don't fully join together at the midline of the abdominal wall, having a protrusion on the belly button, which is often most noticeable in infants when they cry. Every hospital she visited advised her to take Haymanot to a hospital in Addis Ababa, the capital city, but she didn’t have the money for transportation. Fortunately, Haymanot and her mother were referred to our medical partner's care center, Bethany Kids Hospital, which provided them with funding for transportation and accommodations. On September 4th, Haymanot will undergo hernia repair surgery and our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $487 to fund the procedure. Once completed, doctors expect that Haymanot will grow up to be a happy and healthy girl. Haymanot's mom said, “Now that we have found help, I believe she will become well.”
