Sokha is a 63-year-old woman from Cambodia. She lives on the outskirts of Phnom Penh with her sister, who works as a cleaner. She has one son who works at a motorbike company. In her free time, she enjoys cooking and doing household chores. In April 2025, Sokha was involved in a road traffic accident that caused a fracture to her left wrist. She was treated at a government hospital, where she underwent surgery to stabilize the fracture using a metal plate and screws. Since then, she has experienced persistent pain in her wrist and fingers, making it difficult to perform daily tasks like cooking and household chores, and significantly affecting her independence and quality of life. Fortunately, on April 22nd, our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, will help Sokha undergo a hardware removal procedure — a surgery to remove the plate and screws from her wrist, which will allow her to use her hand more comfortably again. She can contribute $50, but needs help to raise $328 more to fund her procedure and care. Sokha said, “Since the accident, I have had constant pain in my wrist and fingers, and it makes it very hard for me to do my daily work. I hope that after treatment, I can use my hand normally again without pain and return to my everyday life.”

Borey is 21 years old and a factory worker living in Kampong Speu Province, Cambodia. He lives with his wife, who works in a garment factory, and their two-year-old son. In his free time, he looks after his son and plays volleyball with friends in the village. Five months ago, Borey was in a motor vehicle accident that caused paralysis of his right arm. He has been diagnosed with a brachial plexus injury on his right side. The brachial plexus is a nerve network that transmits signals from the spine to the shoulder, arm, and hand. Injuries to this nerve network can result in loss of function and sensation. He is unable to lift his right arm and experiences stiffness in his fingers, which limits his ability to use his hand and perform daily activities. Fortunately, our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, can help. Borey traveled to our medical partner's care center, Kien Khleang National Rehabilitation Centre, to receive treatment. This is the only center in the whole country where this treatment is available. On April 2nd, he will undergo a brachial plexus repair surgery. After recovery, he is expected to regain strength, improve flexibility in his fingers, and be able to use his right arm normally. He can contribute $100, but needs help raising $637 more to fund his procedure and care. Borey said, “I hope that after the surgery, I will be able to lift my right arm again, and the stiffness in my fingers will improve so that I can regain strength and use my hand normally.”

Say is a 26-year-old woman from Burma. She lives with her husband and daughter in a refugee camp in Mae Hong Son Province, Thailand. She is a homemaker, and her husband works as a day labourer outside of the camp. Say weaves traditional Karen dresses to help earn extra income. Often, their income is not enough to cover their daily needs, and they have to purchase groceries on credit, paying them back when they have money. Say is currently expecting her second child. Her doctors recommend that she deliver via a caesarean section due to a high-risk pregnancy. This way, doctors can ensure the safety of both mother and child. Our medical partner, Burma Children's Medical Fund, is helping Say undergo a C-Section on March 8th. This procedure will cost $1500, and Say needs your support. Say says, “I would love to have either a boy or a girl. When my children are older, I would like to attend midwife classes in the refugee camp and work as a midwife at the camp hospital.”

Sintanan is a three-year-old boy who lives with his parents in Ethiopia. His mother spends long days working in the flower industry. All day, she is surrounded by beauty, but also harsh pesticides, which take a toll on her body, that she needs regular medical checkups just to stay healthy. Sintanan's father works with his hands, doing heavy lifting work wherever he can find it. Despite the struggle, their love for their son keeps them moving. One year ago, Sintanan began experiencing difficulty in breathing, snoring, sleep disturbance and fevers. He is often very sick, which creates a problem for his family because his parents are day laborers, and a day spent nursing Sintanan is a day they don't get paid. When he is sick, they stay awake all night, watching him closely, because they are so afraid something bad will happen while they sleep. Sintanan has been diagnosed with enlarged tonsils. He requires surgery treatment, but his parents are unable to pay for it. Our medical partner, Saglan Wajee General Hospital, is requesting $700 to fund a tonsillectomy for Sintanan, which is scheduled to take place on February 11th. Surgeons will remove his tonsils, hopefully relieving Sintanan of his symptoms, and helping him to live more comfortably. "We long to see our son sleep through the night, and eat without pain. It would be our greatest joy to know that infections are no longer affecting his development," said Sintanan's parents.

Nara is a 47-year-old woodworker from Cambodia. He lives in a small community in Kampong Cham province with his wife, who is a tailor. They have three children: their eldest works in a garment factory, while the two younger children are still students. In his spare time, he enjoys watching the news and joining social gatherings. Over a month ago, Nara was involved in a traffic accident that caused a wrist injury and deformity. Since the injury, he has experienced persistent pain and difficulty using his hand. He is unable to properly hold objects, which has significantly affected his ability to work as a woodworker and carry out daily activities. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, can help. On January 20th, Nara will undergo a fracture repair procedure, which will help correct the position of his wrist, relieve pain, and restore function in his hand, allowing him to return to work and support his family. Nara can contribute $100, but needs help to raise $500 more to fund his procedure and care. Nara said, “I hope the surgery will help me regain the use of my hand so I can go back to work and provide for my family.”

Alan is a nine-year-old boy from Colombia. He dreams of becoming a police officer to help people. He is a curious child who performs well academically. However, constant pain and oral discomfort have affected his concentration, attendance, and participation in school activities. About a year ago, he was examined for the first time by a pediatric dentist, who diagnosed multiple deep cavities. Since then, he has been under observation, but the progression of the disease has been associated with intense and persistent pain, inflammation, infection, and difficulty eating and sleeping. On January 21st, Alan will undergo dental surgery under general anesthesia with the help of our medical partner, Clinica Noel. He needs help to raise $868 to fund his procedure and care that will allow him to live more comfortably. Alan's mother says, "I would like to express my sincere gratitude for helping my son. We have been waiting to undergo this procedure for some time. I thank you from the bottom of my heart."

Thavreak is a two-year-old boy from Cambodia. Thavreak lives in Phnom Penh with his parents and is the only child in his family. His mother works in a garment factory, and his father is an electrician. Three months ago, Thavreak got into an accident while he was playing and put his hand into a running machine, causing him a right ring finger contracture. This makes it difficult for him to use his hand to hold objects, and he feels a little pain when someone touches it. Fortunately, our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, is helping Thavreak receive treatment. On December 16th, surgeons will perform a contracture release surgery to help him use his hand more easily again. Now, he needs help to fund this $572 procedure. Thavreak's mother said, "After the surgery, I hope that my son will be able to use his hand like other kids and have no more pain, so he can grow healthy and use his right hand when he attends school."

Channalen is a 34-year-old taxi driver from Phnom Penh, Cambodia. He lives with his wife and their two young children. Their eldest is in kindergarten, and their youngest is just three years old. His wife stays home to care for the children and manage the household. Before his accident, Channalen loved spending his free time playing volleyball with friends in his village. The stairs in their home have now become a daily challenge since his injury. Six months ago, Channalen was involved in a car-to-car collision that left him with a severe fracture of his left hip. He underwent fracture repair surgery, but complications soon followed—an infection developed, and he was referred to a larger hospital. Unable to afford the high cost of care, he felt he had no options. It was only after hearing about our medical partner's care center, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), from his aunt that he found hope. He and his family traveled two hours to reach the hospital. Since the accident, Channalen has been in constant pain. He can only walk with crutches, and even then every step is difficult. He has been unable to work, leaving his family without their primary source of income. On November 14th, Channalen will undergo a hip replacement at CSC. This life-changing procedure will relieve his pain, restore his mobility, and allow him to return to work so he can support his family once again. His family can contribute $60, but needs help to raise $1,440 more to fund his procedure and care. Channalen said, "After the surgery, I hope that I will no longer have pain and can walk without using crutches. This may help me a lot because I have to earn money to support my family."

Myo is a 51-year-old man from Burma. He lives with his wife, four children, and father-in-law in a refugee camp in Thailand. His wife is a homemaker, his father-in-law, who is retired, and his children. Myo is a teacher in the refugee camp. For the past five years, Myo has had a right inguinal hernia. This hernia causes him pain, a burning sensation, and aching in his right groin. Due to the pain and discomfort he experiences, he cannot focus when he teaches. Our medical partner, Burma Children Medical Fund, is requesting $1468 to fund Myo's hernia repair surgery. The procedure is scheduled to take place on October 9th and, once completed, will hopefully allow him to live more comfortably. Myo said, “I would like my discomfort to disappear, and I would like to be able to work properly. I am hoping that my condition will be resolved after surgery.”
