Rosa is a middle-aged Guatemalan woman of Kaqchikel descent. She has suffered from diabetes and high blood pressure her whole life, both of which began to subside after consulting with physicians. Unfortunately, subsequent kidney failure has left her experiencing extreme swelling of her legs and severe fatigue. Rosa needs to begin dialysis to survive.
There is a form of dialysis that Rosa can perform herself at home called peritoneal dialysis that will greatly improve her quality of life and increase her life expectancy. While there is a program in Guatemala that provides free dialysis supplies to patients, the up front costs associated with placing the peritoneal catheter and being trained to self-perform dialysis make it an arduous, expensive, and prohibitive process to initiate.
Wuqu’ Kawoq is hoping to raise $1,150 to cover Rosa’s “start-up” costs, which will include the construction of a “clean room” where she can safely and effectively perform her own dialysis at home. Your donations will help provide Rosa with the long and healthy life that everyone deserves.
