Mary Ann is a mother of two from Philippines. Her husband is a taxi driver and and occasionally takes on construction work during holidays or when work is unavailable. Maryann stopped working after giving birth to her youngest child; she previously worked as an online seller. At present, Maryann spends her time caring for her children and using her mobile phone for leisure. In 2023, Mary Ann felt a lump in her breast and underwent an ultrasound examination. The result was reviewed by a physician who informed her that the mass was benign and advised her to return for a follow-up consultation. However, she did not return for follow-up as she felt reassured by the initial findings. In 2024, Mary Ann consulted with another physician, who recommended surgical intervention. Upon learning the cost of the procedure, she decided not to proceed due to financial constraints. She opted to take herbal medication for one month, thinking that the condition would resolve on its own. However, she developed an infection from a wound in her breast, and had to seek treatment. Mary Ann was diagnosed with breast cancer. Without treatment, the cancer may spread to other organs. In August 2025, she started chemotherapy and was advised to undergo a mastectomy, surgery to remove breast tissue. This treatment aims to rid her body of breast cancer and to prevent the cancer from metastasizing. Fortunately, our medical partner, World Surgical Foundation Philippines (WSFP), is helping Mary Ann receive treatment. She is scheduled to undergo a mastectomy on December 19th at Our Lady of Peace Hospital. A portion of the cost of her treatment is being supported by the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation, and WSFP is raising $990 to cover the remaining cost. After treatment, Mary Ann will hopefully return to a cancer-free life. Mary Ann shared, "Thank you to everyone who is helping us in these difficult times. Any assistance that you give brings relief to me and my family."

Mary is a 23-year-old woman from the Philippines. She currently resides with her aunt in Cavite, though her immediate family is based in Bataan, where both of her parents work as small-scale fishermen. Due to limited financial means, her family is only able to send her minimal support, sufficient for food but not for medical expenses. Mary spends most of her time at home assisting her aunt with daily household chores. Her uncle works as a Joyride driver, while her aunt runs a small sari-sari store, which supports their basic daily needs but does not generate enough income to cover unexpected medical costs, such as surgery. Two years ago, Mary began to experience troubling symptoms, including recurrent and intense abdominal pain. Initially, she assumed the discomfort was due to acidity. However, over time, the symptoms worsened including vomiting. To manage the pain, she started self-medicating with antacids. Despite temporary relief, the underlying condition persisted and gradually impacted her quality of life. Mary sought treatment at our medical partner's care center where she was diagnosed with cholelithiasis, the presence of gall stones in the gall bladder. Mary has been advised to undergo a cholecystectomy, the surgical removal of the gallbladder. If left untreated, her symptoms will continue to worsen and put her at risk for further health complications in the future. Our medical partner, World Surgical Foundation Philippines (WSFP), is helping Mary receive treatment. She is scheduled to undergo a cholecystectomy on July 18th. The Philippine Health Insurance Corporation is covering a portion of the procedure's cost, and WSFP is requesting for an additional $1,031 to cover the cost of Mary's surgery and care. Mary says, "The support for my operation is a big help, not just for me in covering my medical expenses, but also for my family in lessening their financial burden. I am very much grateful to the supporters who help people like me needing assistance."

Alongside their earnings, the money that she earns from working as a sales staff is used to support her two children and her five siblings, who also live with them. Gina discovered that she has lumps in her breast. Bothered by this, she decided to get checked at a nearby hospital. The results prompted her to decide to undergo surgery. The operation placed a heavy burden on their financial situation. While the operation was deemed successful, unfortunately, one other mass was not removed. She was referred to our medical partner's care center, Our Lady of Peace Hospital, where doctors confirmed she has breast cancer. Without treatment, the cancer may spread to other organs. She needs a mastectomy, a surgery to remove breast tissue. Fortunately, our medical partner, World Surgical Foundation Philippines (WSFP), is helping Gina receive treatment. She is scheduled to undergo a mastectomy on October 25th. A portion of the cost of her treatment is being supported by the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation, and WSFP is raising $990 to cover the remaining cost.
