Roberto is a 55-year-old fisherman from the Philippines. Roberto lives with his wife in their own home in Kawit, Cavite. Both are working to support the family’s daily needs and their only child’s college expenses. Roberto’s family depends on fishing for their livelihood, but his illness has made it difficult for him to work at sea.
One year ago, Roberto was diagnosed with an inguinal hernia. Initially, he experienced frequent stomachaches that gradually intensified. Sometimes, he could not fish at all because of the pain and discomfort on his left side.
Fortunately, on November 7th, Roberto will undergo hernia repair surgery at our medical partner’s care center, Our Lady of Peace Hospital. The Philippine Health Insurance Corporation is supporting a portion of the cost of Roberto’s treatment. Our medical partner is raising the remaining $1,038 to cover the cost of his surgery and care. Once completed, this procedure will hopefully allow him to live more comfortably and confidently.
Roberto says, “I am thankful for the chance to be included in the charity. I would no longer have to think about how I will afford the operation. With this assistance, I am now more positive that I will get back to work soon, and I can live my life free of pain again.”
