Thorng is a 20-year-old construction worker with four brothers and two sisters. He likes to listen to music on the radio and watch TV. In July, Thorng fell off his motorbike and hit his neck, paralyzing his left arm. He was diagnosed with a brachial plexus injury, meaning that the nerves connecting his spine to his arm were damaged. Thorng was in pain, and he could not raise his left arm. After learning about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), Thorng traveled for five hours with his mother to reach CSC for treatment. On November 1, surgeons performed a nerve transfer surgery in his left arm. After recovery, he should be able to use his arm easily. Now, he needs help to fund this $450 procedure.

Jennings is a cheerful four-year-old boy who lives with his family in Kenya. He is the youngest of two brothers and currently attends nursery school. His mother sells clothes, while his father operates a small retail shop. Jennings was born with an abnormal condition in a sensitive area. If left untreated, he risked development of an inguinal hernia, testicular cancer, or infertility. Luckily, Jennings was able to receive medical care from Watsi's partner in Kenya, African Mission Healthcare Foundation (AMHF). On October 31, doctors at AMHF performed a corrective surgery. Now, his parents need assistance to pay for this $542 surgery. "Right now, we are not able to fund Jennings's surgical care," says his mother. "I will appreciate if we can get help."

Marvie is a happy 14-year-old girl from the Philippines. She is a student in the seventh grade, and she loves to go to school. She is the oldest of three siblings. Marvie has had clubfeet for eleven years, and she has difficulty walking. Her mother worries about her future, but they have not been able to afford treatment. Fortunately, after visiting our medical partner, International Care Ministries, Marvie began treatment on November 22. She will also receive special shoes for support and therapy to strengthen her limbs. Marvie's parents work on a sugarcane field, and they also gather and sell firewood. They need help to fund this $1,500 procedure. "We are so thankful for this opportunity that has come to us," says her mother. "We have been praying for this. We desire for Marvie to be well and be able to walk properly without any difficulty. We would love to see her fulfill her dreams without any hindrance. Thank you so much."

Meet Rorn, a 65-year-old man from Cambodia living with a mature cataract in his right eye. According to our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC), the cataract “prohibits Rorn from doing his job and supporting his family”—one that includes his wife, three children and two grandchildren. In addition, Rorn has a hard time recognizing faces and walking around outside alone. With $150 in funding Rorn will receive cataract surgery to remove the cloudy lens in his eye and replace it with an artificial one. Following surgery CSC expects that Rorn will have restored vision and experience little pain. For a man who likes to keep abreast of social news, communicate with people and stay active, the positive prognosis of this surgery is great news for Rorn! “After surgery he wants to return to his job to support his family, plant veggies around his house to sell, and go anywhere alone,” CSC adds. Meet Kadogo, an eight-year-old girl from Tanzania who has a clubfoot – a condition that prevents her from walking normally. “Kadogo is using the lateral aspect of her feet for walking, which is painful," reports our partner African Mission Healthcare Foundation (AMHF). "If not treated, Kadogo will never have a normal gait and she will most likely have an increased risk of developing osteoarthritis at a young age." Kadogo is the sixth of seven children in her family. AMHF tells us, “She is in kindergarten and enjoys singing the ABC’s and counting numbers. She also likes to play ball games. Kadogo’s father is a night guard at a private organization and her mother is a homemaker and also does a little bit of farming. Kadogo’s parents work hard to take care of their children. It has just been difficult to come up with enough money to pay for the treatment which Kadogo needs." For $1160, we can heal Kadogo’s clubfoot and allow her to walk normally. After treatment, AMHF explains, “Kadogo’s gait will improve. She will be able to walk on a plantigrade and have a reduced risk of developing osteoarthritis at a young age."

Say hi to Phillippe, a one-year-old boy from Haiti! According to our medical partner, Haiti Cardiac Alliance (HCA), “Phillippe is his mother’s first child, and is very popular with his cousins, aunts, and uncles. He learned to take his first steps and is now trying to walk everywhere he can, holding on to furniture as he goes. He is a very sweet and curious child.” Unfortunately, “Phillippe was born with a condition called patent ductus arteriosus, in which a hole that is normally present in the heart of a developing fetus fails to close after birth. As a result, blood can flow through this hole without passing through the lungs to get oxygen, stunting his development and making him weak and sickly,” explains HCA. For $1,500, Phillippe will receive surgery to completely close the hole in his heart, and he will no longer experience any symptoms from his condition. “It’s a dream come true for us that Phillippe can get better!” says his mother. “I want to become a mason," says David. "I am learning from a friend how to work with stone and I hope to get well soon so that I can continue learning." Meet David, a 30-year-old father from Kenya who has a fractured jaw. “David is not able to chew his food well," our partner African Mission Healthcare Foundation (AMHF) tells us. "If the surgery is not done soon, David could develop an infection." David is married and has two children. David and his nine siblings live with their parents on a small farm. “David has planted vegetables and earns some extra money from working their neighbor’s farms. Last week, David got into an argument with a man and it resulted in a fist fight. David has not been able to raise the full cost of treatment,” continues AMHF. For $660, we can heal David’s broken jaw and allow him to return working on his farm to support his family. AMHF concludes, “We expect that after the surgery, David will no longer be in pain and he will continue learning about masonry so that he can achieve his dream.”

Meet five-year-old Ana from Guatemala. "Her mom works weaving traditional Maya clothing and her father is a farmer," Wuqu' Kawoq' (WK) tells us. "Ana has a large tumor growing near her left knee, consistent with a lipoma or fatty growth," WK writes. "This is causing significant pain and making it difficult for her to to walk and run." "Her parents have brought her to several different doctors looking for help with this condition, and they've run out of money," WK continues. "As a result they've come to us hoping that we can help." With $360 the WK team will be able to remove Ana's tumor so that she can walk without pain. Let's help them do this for Ana.

Su Su is a 23-year-old woman living in Burma with her parents and three-year-old nephew. Due to her heart condition, Su Su had to drop out of school years ago and has had to rely on her parents for many things. “Su Su’s current symptoms include heart palpitations, difficulty breathing and tiredness. She has lost weight and is too thin for her age and height. She cannot eat much and has trouble sleeping,” our partners at Burma Border Projects (BBP) tell us. “Her mother has to assist her when visiting a clinic or hospital. If she tries to walk long distances she experiences tiredness and dizziness. She said even doing chores around the house makes her feel weak.” After many hospital and clinic visits, Su Su has finally been diagnosed with atrial septal defect, a congenital heart disease. The cardiac specialist at BBP has determined that Su Su will need an operation to fix this condition. It will cost $1,500 to fund the surgery to fix Su Su’s heart defect, which is far more than Su Su’s parents can afford. They have already sold their farm to pay for past medical expenses, and do not have the money to cover the costs of this important surgery for Su Su. After treatment, Su Su hopes to live healthy and strong, continuing her education or starting a business – let's help make that happen!

Meet Dara, a 51-year-old man from Cambodia. “Dara is a security guard with three daughters and four grandchildren,” shares our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre. “He enjoys watching Khmer news and music shows on TV. He is saddened by his condition because he can’t be as active as he was before.” “Dara has a three-month-old cataract in his left eye, which causes him discomfort, difficulty seeing, and makes it hard for him to do his job,” explains the Children’s Surgical Centre. $150 will help restore the vision quality to Dara’s left eye. Juan is a friendly 55-year-old man from Guatemala who is unable to work because his vision is rapidly diminishing. Juan visited Wuqu’ Kawoq, our medical partner in Guatemala, desperate to try and restore his eyesight. Doctors discovered that Juan suffers from an anatomic defect in which his eyelids turn in and scrape across the surface of his eyes. Juan has been living with this condition for many years. He visited many doctors, but couldn't afford care. Finally, because of the pain, he began taking steroids. Unfortunately, the medication worsened his condition and caused him to develop cataracts. For $1500, Juan will not only receive surgery to correct his eyelids and stop the ongoing damage to his eyes, he will also undergo cataract surgery. Dilli is a 53-year-old farmer and father of two sons from Nepal. His family's farm only yields crops six months out of the year so he supplements his income by working as a security guard in India. Dilli's goals in life are to have a good family and live to see his grandchildren get married. About a week ago, Dilli experienced severe abdominal pain and was diagnosed with cholecystitis, an inflammation of the gallbladder, a condition that causes extreme pain.
