Juan is a friendly 55-year-old man from Guatemala who is unable to work because his vision is rapidly diminishing.
Juan visited Wuqu’ Kawoq, our medical partner in Guatemala, desperate to try and restore his eyesight. Doctors discovered that Juan suffers from an anatomic defect in which his eyelids turn in and scrape across the surface of his eyes.
Juan has been living with this condition for many years. He visited many doctors, but couldn’t afford care. Finally, because of the pain, he began taking steroids. Unfortunately, the medication worsened his condition and caused him to develop cataracts.
For $1500, Juan will not only receive surgery to correct his eyelids and stop the ongoing damage to his eyes, he will also undergo cataract surgery. Let’s help Juan restore his vision, return to work and live pain-free!

Juan received eye surgery to help restore his vision so he can return to work.
Juan’s doctor says, “Juan is very thankful for the thoughtful care that he’s received and for the changes he’s noting in his pain and vision. He’s never been able to afford treatment before - for many years - because eye care is so expensive in Guatemala. Thanks to Watsi donors, we were able to make it happen. The photo is not the greatest here, because he still has some aversion to bright light which limits how much he can open his eyes, but to us this is an amazing photo - his eyes are open!”
