James is a farmer from Kenya. He is married and has four children. His wife works at Nazareth Hospital, our medical partner's care center. In late January, James slipped and fell. He sustained a closed fracture of the patella of his left leg. He cannot walk and is in pain. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner can help. On February 12, James will undergo a fracture repair procedure, called an open reduction and internal fixation. The treatment will help him heal and walk again. Now, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $998 to fund this procedure. James says, “I like working in my shamba (farm) and walking around to see friends, I therefore hope for support to undergo this treatment so that I can continue serving my family.”

Nuriyan is a baby from Ethiopia. She loves to talk and play with her parents. Her mother is a midwife in a health center, while her father is a businessman. Nuriyan has an inguinal hernia. The hernia is causing him pain, resulting in sleepless nights and irritability. If not treated, the hernia may result in tissue twisting and blocking. Fortunately, on February 09, she will undergo hernia repair surgery at our medical partner's care center. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $487 to fund Nuriyan's surgery. Once completed, this procedure will hopefully allow her to live more comfortably. Nuriyan’s mother says, “There are a lot of nights that I couldn’t sleep because of this condition. We worried a lot as a result of it. And we have been in a lot of hospitals seeking help but we couldn’t get the necessary treatment. And we are not financially stable and this is our main concern. Now we are here with a hope to get the surgery learned about your financial help from other hospital.”

Chamroeurn is a construction worker from Cambodia. He has four siblings and is the second oldest. He enjoys gardening in his free time. He particularly likes tending to his mango and banana trees. Eight years ago, his hand was burned by a fire. Burn scar contractures have developed, tightening the skin around the burn. It is difficult for him to use his hand. When Chamroeurn learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, he traveled for three hours seeking treatment. On February 8, surgeons at CSC will perform a burn contracture release surgery to to use his hand again. Now, he needs help to fund this $448 procedure. He says, "I look forward to going home and gardening again."

Ork is a father of six from Cambodia. He is a rice farmer. He has one son, five daughters, and ten grandchildren. He enjoys listening to monks pray on the radio. Five years ago, Ork developed a cataract in his left eye, causing him itchiness and blurred vision. He has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, and going anywhere outside. When Ork learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, he traveled for four hours seeking treatment. On February 8, doctors will perform a small incision cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in his left eye. After recovery, he will be able to see clearly. Now, he needs help to fund this $211 procedure. He says, "I am looking forward to being able to recognize my grandchildren's faces again."

Kyay is a 52-year-old farmer from Burma. She has four children. She owns a farm with her husband, where they grow rice and beans. Currently, Kyay is in a lot of pain. She has a bile duct stone, which prevents her from sleeping, eating, and walking comfortably. She is very worried about her condition and how it will affect her family. Kyay has been advised to undergo a biliary obstruction repair, a procedure to repair the blockage of the bile ducts, which carry bile from the liver to the gallbladder. If left untreated, Kyay's symptoms will continue to worsen and put her at risk for further health complications in the future. After seeking treatment through our medical partner, Burma Children Medical Fund (BCMF), Kyay is scheduled to undergo her biliary obstruction repair on February 8. BCMF is requesting $1,500 to cover the total cost of Kyay's procedure and care. Kyay says, "I’m happy I will be able to take care of my son and daughter, cook, and clean the house again.”

Ratha is a 29-year-old man from Cambodia. He has been married for four years and has a two-year-old son. For work, he sells chickens. In his free time, he likes to play football. Three months ago, Ratha was in a motorcycle accident and has had hip pain ever since. He needs to have a reduction procedure so he can walk more easily. Fortunately, he is scheduled to undergo surgery at our medical partner's care center on February 7. After the surgery, he looks forward to returning home and spending time with his family. He hopes he can play football soon. He says, "I hope I am better after the operation and can walk without pain."

Kuong is mother of nine from Cambodia. She has three daughters, six sons, and twenty grandchildren. She likes playing with the grandkids and listening to the monks on the radio. Four years ago, Kuong developed a pterygium in both eyes, causing her blurred vision, irritation, and tearing. Pterygiums are non-cancerous growths of the conjunctiva, a mucous layer that lubricates the eye. The growths occur when the conjunctiva is exposed to excessive sun damage and the cells grow abnormally over the pupil. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, working, and going anywhere outside. When Kuong learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, she traveled for five hours seeking treatment. Kuong needs a surgical procedure to remove the abnormal conjunctiva from the cornea surface and replace it with a conjunctival graft to prevent recurrence. The total cost of her procedure is $201. This covers medications, supplies, and inpatient care for two days. The procedure is scheduled for February 7. Her husband says, "I am worried about her going blind in the future. This surgery will help that not happen."

Lika is a five-year-old girl from Cambodia. She has two sisters. She likes to play with toys with her sisters and friends. She loves to dance. Four years ago, she was burned by a fire. When Lika learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, she traveled for two and a half hours seeking treatment. On February 7, surgeons at CSC will perform a burn contracture release surgery to to use her fingers again. Now, she needs help to fund this $448 procedure. She says, "I look forward to dancing and playing with my sisters when I get home."

Sai Nob is a cashew nut farmer from Cambodia. She has one son and one daughter. She likes to rest at home and cook special dishes in her free time. In 2016, Sai Nob was in a motor vehicle accident that caused a fracture in her forearm. She went to an emergency clinic, and doctors fixated hardware to heal her fracture. Now the hardware is painful and needs to be removed. She is in chronic arm and hand pain. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, can help. On February 8, Sai Nob will undergo a hardware removal procedure, which will cost $214. This procedure will allow her to use her hand normally again. She says, "I am looking forward to returning home and spending time with my family."

Sdoeurng is a factory worker from Cambodia. She has five sisters and four brothers. She loves to watch Thai movies, cook, and help her parents with their work. One year ago, she was in a motorcycle accident and fractured her femur. Doctors fixated hardware to heal her fracture. Now, the hardware is causing pain in her leg. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, can help. On February 7, Sdoeurng will undergo a hardware removal procedure, which will cost $214. This procedure will help her walk easily again without pain. She says, "After this procedure, I can complete my work normally and live without pain again."

Ly is a rice and potato farmer from Cambodia. He has been married for twenty years and has two sons and four daughters. He likes to maintain his vegetable garden and read books about Buddhism. Two months ago, Ly was cranking a lever to start a machine but hit his forearm against something hard, causing a fracture. It is difficult for him to use his hand and arm, and he is in chronic pain. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, can help. On February 7, Ly will undergo a fracture repair procedure, which will cost $430. This procedure will help him move and use his hand again. He says, "After the operation, I hope I can use my hand normally again and without pain."

Dolla is a farmer from Malawi. She is a widowed mother who lives with her adult children. Dolla spends her days caring for her home and cooking. In her free time, she likes to sit and listen to the radio. Since October 2017, Dolla has been experiencing pain and abnormal bleeding. She has been diagnosed with cervical cancer. She needs to undergo a hysterectomy, a procedure in which surgeons will remove her uterus. Our medical partner, World Altering Medicine, is requesting $650 to fund Dolla's surgery. On February 8, she will undergo gynecological surgery at Nkhoma Hospital, our medical partner's care center. The requested money pays for supplies, medications, and seven nights of hospital stay. Dolla was thrilled to find out her surgery would be funded. She is eager to have her procedure and return to her farm and family cancer-free. She says, "Thank you for this support."
