Nahashon is a shy three-year-old boy from Nyandarua County, Kenya. His father works as a casual laborer while his mother takes care of Nahashon and his siblings. Nahashon was born with a condition known as Genu Varum, also known as bow legs. His legs curve outward, causing discomfort and pain when walking. Nahashon has a hard time playing with his friends due to this pain. Doctors from our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare (AMH), met Nahashon and his family at a local clinic. After an examination, doctors recommended Nahashon undergo bilateral PTO to correct the bowing in his legs. Nahashon is scheduled for treatment on July 10th at AMH's care center. After the procedure, he will be able to walk without pain. AMH is requesting $1224 to cover the cost of treatment. Nahashon's mother said, “I hope that the surgery will correct his condition and my son continue to walk like other children.”

Sokheng is a 24-year-old woman who lives in Kampong Chnang Province with her parents and younger brother. Her three other siblings have all moved away to work in construction or factory jobs. Sokheng works in a nearby garment factory and uses that income to help support her parents, who are rice farmers. In her free time, she loves cooking and growing vegetables near their home. Since she was 16 years old, Sokheng has had a mass on the bottom of her foot. She is missing work regularly and everyday activities, such as walking, have become difficult. Sokheng traveled three hours to our medical partner Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC) to seek treatment and was diagnosed with plantar fibromatosis - a rare, benign, fibrous tissue disorder resulting in the formation of nodules. This condition can be locally aggressive, and often results in pain, functional disability, and decreased quality of life. Sokheng is scheduled to undergo a partial amputation of her right foot on June 16th. Her family is able to contribute $100 to the surgery, and she needs only $479 to fully fund the operation and after-care. After treatment, she will be able to live without pain. Sokheng shared, "After surgery I want to return to work and help my family."

Sophorn is a 27-year-old snack vendor from Cambodia. She resides in Kampong Speu province with her husband and child. Her husband is employed at a nearby factory while her daughter has just begun her studies in the first grade. Sophorn's home is situated close to the local school, where she operates a small business selling snacks and beverages to students and neighbors from the front of her house. In January 2023, she fell on a wet bathroom floor and fractured the ulnar bone on her left lower arm. She visited a Khmer traditional medicine healer to treat the fracture, but is still experiencing chronic pain and cannot use her hand. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, can help. On May 12th, Sophorn will undergo a fracture repair procedure, which will cost $483. With this procedure, the fracture will be corrected, and she will regain the use of her arm. Sophorn shared: "I hope that after the surgery, the pain will subside and I can work again to support my family."
