Hamith is a ten-year-old student from Cambodia. He lives with his family in Kandal province where his father is a journalist and his mother is a factory worker. He has one sister and one brother. At school, he is in the fourth grade, where his favorite subjects are Khmer, mathematics, social science, and English. Although he loves academics, Hamith aspires to be a footballer when he grows up. When he was very young, Hamith developed an ear infection. This infection caused his right ear's tympanic membrane, or the ear drum, to perforate. As a result, Hamith experiences frequent ear discharge, pain, tinnitus, and progressive hearing loss. He cannot communicate clearly with those around him and struggles to hear his teacher in class. Our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, is seeking $487 to fund a myringoplasty for Hamith, which will repair the perforation in his eardrum. The procedure is scheduled for April 25th at Kien Khleang National Rehabilitation Centre. Once he has recovered, Hamith's life will no longer be disrupted by the unpleasant symptoms he has been living with. Hamith's mother said: "We hope that after surgery, Hamith will be healthy, his hearing will be better, and he can return to school."

Meet Eva, a beautiful two-week-old newborn from Tanzania! Her mother had a smooth delivery and is overjoyed with her new baby. Eva also has a sibling, and her family lives in a small, remote village. Eva’s family depends on small-scale agriculture for food and income. Unfortunately, agriculture has not been enough, and they are trying to find different sources of income, but with no success so far. Eva was born with clubfoot of both feet. Clubfoot is a condition in which the foot is twisted out of shape, which causes difficulty walking and even wearing shoes. Eva’s mother shared concerns about the challenges Eva will face growing up. Eva’s family traveled to visit our medical partner’s care center; on May 5th, surgeons will perform clubfoot repair surgery. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare (AMH), is requesting $935 to fund Eva’s clubfoot repair. After treatment and with proper therapy, Eva can learn to walk as she grows. Eva’s mother says, “I am relieved to hear that my daughter has a chance to get treatment that will help with her condition. I hope she grows to face no stigma in her life.”

Bagoha is a farmer from Uganda. He is married and a father of four children. For the past ten years, Bagoha has had an inguinal hernia. The hernia causes him pain and discomfort, and this is affecting his ability to work on his farm. Fortunately, on June 13, he will undergo hernia repair surgery at our medical partner's care center. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $249 to fund Bagoha's surgery. Once completed, this procedure will hopefully allow him to live more comfortably and confidently. He says, "After surgery I will resume working in my banana plantation."
