Victoria is a nine-month-old baby from Bolivia. She is the only child of her father, a construction worker, and her mother, a university student. They live in a city in the mountains of central Bolivia.
Victoria has a cardiac condition called patent ductus arteriosus, where a hole exists between two major blood vessels next to the heart. Blood leaks through this hole without passing through the lungs to obtain oxygen, leaving her weak and short of breath.
On July 4th, Victoria will undergo cardiac surgery at our medical partner’s care center, Hospital del Niño Dr. Ovidio Aliaga Uría. During surgery, surgeons will sew the hole so blood can no longer leak through it.
Victoria’s family needs help to fund the costs of cardiac care and surgery. The $1,500 requested by our medical partner, International Cardiac Alliance, covers cardiac exams and diagnostics, surgical costs, follow-up care, and medications.
Victoria’s mother shared: “I am hopeful that our daughter will start eating more and growing once this surgery is done.”
