Curie is a bright and cheerful 8-year-old girl from Kenya. She loves music and books and dreams of becoming a mechanic when she grows up. When asked why she is interested in this career, she responds with a big smile! Curie is studying in grade five. She has two siblings, and her father works as a farmer while her mother runs a small agro-vet shop selling animal feed and fruits.
Curie was born with bilateral clubfoot, a condition in which the foot is twisted out of shape, which causes difficulty walking. She began serial casting six days after birth and underwent two tenotomy procedures at three months old, using FAB shoes to help correct the condition. However, when her mother fell ill, they were unable to visit the clinic anymore, leading to a recurrence of clubfoot. Recently, our medical partner hosted a mobile clinic in Curie’s town, where the doctors reviewed her condition. Curie was then scheduled for surgery and has been undergoing serial casting in preparation for the procedure.
On February 14th, Curie will undergo clubfoot repair surgery. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare (AMH), is requesting $1,286 to fund this procedure. After treatment, Curie will be able to walk properly, gain confidence, and continue her studies without interruptions.
Curie’s mom said, “I am grateful for the support and look forward to seeing my daughter walk well like other children. God bless the donor and continue helping other needy patients.”
