Kahemura is a 60-year-old father who lives in Uganda. Kahemura lives alone, however he is occasionally visited by his 35-year-old, self-employed daughter.
In 2009, Kahemura developed a painful swelling in his lower abdomen that made it difficult for him to perform daily activities, such as working in his garden. For years he ignored his pain until, in May of 2017, his daughter noticed a change in his gait. She insisted that he go to the hospital, where a doctor diagnosed Kahemura with an inguinal hernia and recommended immediate surgery. Without treatment, the hernia could become strangulated, which is a potentially fatal complication in which the hernia cuts off blood supply to the intestines and causes surrounding tissue to die.
Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $249 to fund hernia repair surgery for Kahemura. The surgery is scheduled to take place on July 19 and, once completed, will hopefully allow Kahemura to walk easily and live more comfortably.
“I have a swelling in my right inguinal region it needs surgery and I need help,” expresses Kahemura.
