Eveness is a farmer from Malawi. She is a widow who lost her husband in 2013, when her youngest was only eight months.
19 years ago, Eveness began to experience troubling symptoms, including a neck swelling that kept growing and was associated with neck heaviness plus pains, inability to walk long distances or carry heavy items on her head, frequent coughs, especially at night, and weakness. Eveness has since reduced her time on the farm, affecting her income.
Accompanied by her sister, Eveness visited our medical partner’s care center, Partners in Hope Medical Center, where she was diagnosed with multinodular goiter, an abnormal enlargement of the thyroid gland. The thyroid is the gland in front of your neck and produces thyroid hormones. These hormones are responsible for metabolism, growth, and other bodily functions. She needs surgery to prevent her symptoms from getting worse.
Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is helping Eveness receive treatment. On March 6th, she is scheduled to undergo a thyroidectomy where surgeons will remove all or part of her thyroid gland. This procedure will cost $1,015, and she and her family need help raising money.
Eveness said, “I have hope that surgery will bring back my peace of mind and take away my pains and discomfort.”
