MongKol is a nine-year-old boy who lives with his parents in Prey Veng Province, Cambodia. His father is a grocery seller and his mother is a rice farmer. He has one older brother, who is currently studying at university. MongKol does not attend school due to verbal communication challenges associated with autism. His favorite meal is fish sour soup, and in his free time, he enjoys playing with toy cars. One month ago, MongKol had an ear infection that caused an abnormal skin growth to develop in his left ear. Since then, he has experienced ear pain, hearing loss, and bloody discharge. This condition makes it difficult for him to hear voices, which affects his ability to communicate, play, and interact with others. Thankfully, MongKol and his family have traveled to our medical partner's care center to receive treatment. On April 1st, surgeons will remove the growth from his ear. Our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, is requesting $477 to fund this procedure. This covers medications, supplies, and inpatient care. MongKol's mother shared, “After the surgery, I pray that my dear son will be free from the constant pain and discharge in his ear, and that he can live happily without discomfort.”

Jana is a four-year-old young girl from El Bagre, Colombia. She is an active, cheerful preschooler who loves spending time with her family and enjoys music and dancing. Even at a young age, Jana shows a caring heart and dreams of becoming a doctor one day so she can help people, or animals, in need. Unfortunately, Jana has developed severe dental caries and infections. Because of her young age, she requires extensive dental treatment under general anesthesia to safely address the problem. At times, Jana feels sad because other children tease her about her teeth, and she hopes her teeth can be fixed. Our medical partner, Clinica Noel, is requesting $868 to fund treatment for her infection and severe tooth decay under general anesthesia on March 20th. Doctors hope this care will allow Jana to grow up healthy, free from pain, and able to smile with confidence. Jana's mother shares, "To anyone who wants to do their bit to help my daughter, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. We are a low-income family; I am a single mother, I do odd jobs, and unfortunately, I do not have the financial means to cover the treatment she needs, as it is very expensive. God bless every person who can help make this surgery possible. My daughter dreams of the day when she can smile without fear or pain. She always tells me, 'Mom, when I have my pretty teeth, I'm going to laugh all the time, and they won't hurt anymore.' That is her greatest wish, and hopefully we will see it come true very soon. Sovanneath is a one-year-old girl from Takeo Province, Cambodia. She lives with her parents and is their only child. Her father works for a private company, and her mother is a primary school teacher. In her free time, she enjoys playing with toys, and her favorite food is soup—especially soup with plenty of vegetables. Sovanneath was born with polydactyly in her left hand. This means that she has an extra thumb that is non-functional and immobile. It makes everyday activities challenging, as the extra thumb often bumps into objects and can cause injury. Her parents worry that she may feel self-conscious about her hand as she grows older. On March 23rd, surgeons will perform a polydactyly repair to remove the extra finger. Our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, is requesting $379 to fund this procedure. After surgery, she will feel more comfortable, be able to use her hand normally, perform daily activities without pain, and gain confidence in her appearance. Sovanneath's mother said, “I sincerely hope that after the surgery, my daughter will be able to use her hand normally, do everyday activities without pain, and grow up healthy, confident, and happy like any other child.”

Ana is a one-year-old girl from Bolivia. She lives with her mom, who sells vegetables, her dad, who is a locksmith, and her twin sister. When Ana was born, her mom noticed that she couldn't gain weight, and she was always tired. Doctors soon discovered her heart condition and informed her mother that she needed surgery. Ana has a cardiac condition called a ventricular septal defect. A hole exists between the two lower chambers of her heart: blood leaks through this hole instead of circulating normally, leaving her weak and short of breath. Ana was also born with a cleft lip and palate. After heart surgery, doctors can then proceed to repair her cleft. On May 6th, Ana will undergo cardiac surgery at our medical partner's care center, Hospital del Niño Dr. Ovidio Aliaga Uría. During surgery, surgeons will sew a patch over the hole in her heart so that blood can no longer leak through it. Ana's family needs help to fund the costs of cardiac care and surgery. Our medical partner, International Cardiac Alliance, requests $1,500 to cover the cost of cardiac exams and diagnostics, surgical costs, follow-up care, and medications. Ana's mother shared, "I pray this surgery goes well so my little daughter can feel better and have a happy life."

Ro is a young kindergarten student from Cambodia. He lives on the outskirts of Kandal province with his loving parents and his older brother, who studies in grade 4. His mother is a teacher, and his father is a rice farmer. Ro enjoys playing with toy cars and likes eating fried and boiled eggs. His favorite subject is language arts, and he dreams of becoming a police officer when he grows up. Ro was involved in a serious traffic accident one year ago, in which he was dragged by a car. As a result, he required a skin graft at a government hospital, leaving him with scar contractures on his right hip and thigh. The scar contractures cause him pain and itchiness, and his parents are concerned that they may affect his ability to walk. Fortunately, our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, is helping Ro receive treatment. They are requesting $572 to help cover the cost of his care. With your help, surgeons will perform a contracture release surgery on January 21st to relieve his pain and improve his mobility. This will allow Ro to walk comfortably and participate in daily activities. His mother said, “After the surgery, I hope that my son will no longer have pain, so he can focus more on his studies.”

Mateo is a toddler from Bolivia. He is his parents' first child. He lives with his mom, who is a homemaker, and his dad, who works distributing soda. When he was born prematurely at 30 weeks, Mateo had to be in an incubator where doctors detected his heart condition. Mateo has a cardiac condition called tetralogy of Fallot (ToF), a combination of four heart conditions, including a hole between the two lower chambers of the heart, as well as a blockage that affects how blood flows out of the heart. As a result, Mateo does not get enough oxygen, leaving him weak and short of breath. On May 6th, he will undergo cardiac surgery at our medical partner's care center, Hospital del Niño Dr. Ovidio Aliaga Uría. During surgery, doctors will close the hole in his heart and remove the blockage so that blood can flow more normally. Mateo's family needs help to fund the costs of cardiac care and surgery. Our medical partner, International Cardiac Alliance, requests $1,500 to cover the cost of cardiac exams and diagnostics, surgical costs, follow-up care, and medications. Darlene is a three-month-old baby girl from Bolivia, who lives with her parents and one older brother. Her mom works as an entertainer at children's birthday parties, while her dad is a day laborer. When she was born, Darlene's mother noticed that she had difficulty breastfeeding and took her to the pediatrician, who discovered a heart problem. Darlene has a cardiac condition called patent ductus arteriosus; a hole exists between two blood vessels next to her heart. This condition prevents Darlene's blood from circulating properly, causing her weakness and leaving her at risk of heart failure if the condition goes untreated. On February 11th, Darlene will undergo cardiac surgery at our medical partner's care center, Hospital del Niño Dr. Ovidio Aliaga Uría. During surgery, surgeons will sew the hole closed so that blood can no longer leak through it. Darlene's family needs help to fund the costs of her cardiac care and surgery. Our medical partner, International Cardiac Alliance, requests $1,500 to cover the cost of her exams and diagnostics, surgical costs, follow-up care, and medications. Darlene's mother says: "I'm grateful for all your help. I want to help children in the future as you helped mine."

Alan is a nine-year-old boy from Colombia. He dreams of becoming a police officer to help people. He is a curious child who performs well academically. However, constant pain and oral discomfort have affected his concentration, attendance, and participation in school activities. About a year ago, he was examined for the first time by a pediatric dentist, who diagnosed multiple deep cavities. Since then, he has been under observation, but the progression of the disease has been associated with intense and persistent pain, inflammation, infection, and difficulty eating and sleeping. On January 21st, Alan will undergo dental surgery under general anesthesia with the help of our medical partner, Clinica Noel. He needs help to raise $868 to fund his procedure and care that will allow him to live more comfortably. Alan's mother says, "I would like to express my sincere gratitude for helping my son. We have been waiting to undergo this procedure for some time. I thank you from the bottom of my heart."

Nuruhaiya is a three-year-old girl from Tanzania. She lives with her mother, who earns a living through small-scale local work to support her family and provide for their daily necessities. Nuruhaiya was brought in for treatment after her mother noticed progressive bowing of both legs soon after she started walking. She has been diagnosed with bilateral genu varus, a condition where the knees curve outward while the feet and ankles touch. Several factors could cause this condition, such as growth disorders, vitamin deficiencies, or excessive fluoride found in contaminated drinking water. As a result, the knees can be angled inwards or outwards, making it difficult to walk and may cause long-term joint damage. As Nuruhaiya grew, walking became increasingly difficult. The condition has been causing her imbalance and fatigue whenever she tries to walk or play with other children. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $810 to fund treatment for Nuruhaiya. The procedure is scheduled to take place on March 3rd at our medical partner's care center, Kafika House. Treatment will hopefully restore Nuruhaiya's mobility, allow her to participate in a variety of activities, and greatly decrease her risk of future complications. Nuruhaiya's mother says, “I want her to walk and play freely like other children, without pain or difficulty.”

Camila is a sweet young girl from Bolivia. She lives with her mom, who maintains a small store from home so that she has more time to spend caring for her daughter. Camila has five older siblings. She likes to go to school, and she loves to paint. When Camila was a baby, doctors told her mom she had a heart condition that may close with time, but as she has grown older, the heart condition has affected her health more and more. Camila also has developmental disabilities. Camila has a cardiac condition called a ventricular septal defect, where a hole exists between the two lower chambers of the heart that causes blood to leak as the heart pumps. Camila's condition prevents blood from circulating in her body normally, leaving her weak and short of breath. On April 15th, she will undergo cardiac surgery at our medical partner's care center, Hospital del Niño Dr. Ovidio Aliaga Uría. During surgery, a patch will be sewn over the hole in her heart so that blood can no longer leak through it. Camila's family needs help to fund the costs of cardiac care and surgery. Our medical partner, International Cardiac Alliance, requests $1,500 to cover the cost of cardiac exams and diagnostics, surgical costs, follow-up care, and medications. Camila's mother shared, "I'm so happy my daughter can receive the treatment she needs. We were waiting for a long time."

Evance is a four-year-old boy from Tanzania. He is the youngest of two children. His mother passed away two weeks after his birth, leaving his father as the sole caregiver. His father works as a motorcycle taxi driver and has limited income, but is committed to securing treatment so that Evance can walk comfortably, play freely, and enjoy a healthy childhood. Evance was diagnosed with bilateral genu valgus. This has caused progressive inward bending of his knees. Several factors could cause this condition, such as growth disorders, vitamin deficiencies, or excessive fluoride found in contaminated drinking water. As a result, the knees can be angled inwards or outwards, making it difficult to walk and may cause long-term joint damage. Evance began experiencing pain and fatigue when walking even short distances. Despite this, he remains active, playful, and attends preschool. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $777 to fund treatment for Evance. The procedure is scheduled to take place on February 6th at our medical partner's care center, Kafika House. Treatment will hopefully restore Evance's mobility, allow him to participate in a variety of activities, and greatly decrease his risk of future complications. Evance's father says, “When he walks long distances, he complains of pain and gets tired quickly, even though he wants to play and move like other children. I have hope that with his treatment, he will be well enough to play comfortably with the rest of the children.”

Abdulhafiz is a student from Ethiopia. He lives with his parents and three siblings. His father works as a broker, earning just a little to sustain the family. Since birth, Abdulhafiz has had an inguinal hernia. The condition becomes more noticeable during activities such as crying, running, or playing and can cause discomfort, irritability, reduced appetite, and burning or aching pain. Surgical intervention is essential to prevent serious complications and to reduce both physical and psychological distress. At first, Abdulhafiz's parents felt frustrated and anxious because they were unfamiliar with their son's condition. However, after being referred to BKMCM, their hope was restored. They are now looking forward to seeing their son well. Fortunately, on March 2nd, Abdulhafiz will undergo hernia repair surgery. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $512 to fund Abdulhafiz's surgery. Once complete, this procedure will hopefully allow him to live more comfortably and confidently. Abdulhafiz's dad said, "With deep gratitude, I want to express my heartfelt thanks to the donors and everyone who is making this opportunity possible, and I hope that my child will fully recover and live a healthy, stable life."
