Eh is a 17-month-old baby girl from Burma who lives with her parents and grandmother in Karen State. Her father is a farmer, and her mother and grandmother are homemakers. Their monthly income is enough to cover their daily expenses and basic health care, but it is not enough for major health problems.
When Eh was three months old, her parents noticed that her left eye looked inwards and that her neck was tilted towards the right side of her neck. At that time, Eh’s parents did not take her to the hospital because they thought this was not serious and would resolve on its own. When it did not and Eh’s left eye continued to look inwards, her parents took her to a local hospital where doctors performed an X-ray and a computerised tomography (CT) scan of her brain. Eh was diagnosed with a brain cyst and told Eh’s parents that there was not enough equipment to perform the necessary surgery at the local hospital.
Fortunately, our medical partner, Burma Children Medical Fund, can help. On May 23rd, surgeons will remove the cyst. Eh needs your help to raise $1,500 to fund her procedure that will help prevent other health complications in the future.
Eh’s mother said, “I think my daughter’s vision is not clear because she sometimes hits the wall when she is walking or running in the house, and I am not sure if it is due to her condition. I hope that she is doing well and can see properly after her surgery.”
