Shania is a seven-year-old boy from Tanzania. He is the eldest of two children in his family from Bunda, Mara region, being raised by a single mother who used to run a grocery business. Unfortunately, the business folded when Shania fell ill and required extended hospitalization.
Last year, on October 27th, Shania experienced a fire accident while playing with a matchbox, which ignited his clothing. In an attempt to extinguish the flames, he suffered burns on his back and left armpit. He was treated and underwent a skin graft surgery, funded by a generous benefactor.
Despite the successful healing of Shania’s wounds, he developed contractures in his left axilla, restricting his arm’s range of motion. He was referred to our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, for further treatment.
Shania was diagnosed with burn scar contractures and evaluated by plastic surgeons who have proposed a release procedure with Z-plasties for his left axilla.
On October 16th, Shania will undergo a burn contracture release surgery to alleviate the discomfort he experiences when attempting to extend his arm. Shania’s mother is unable to afford the necessary treatment and is seeking assistance. Now, he needs help to fund this $717 procedure.
Shania’s mother says: “His treatment journey has been a blessing, as we have received support from people we do not know. We remain hopeful that he will complete his treatment and go on to lead a healthy and fulfilling life.”
