Alena is a 42-year-old woman from central Malawi. She lives with her husband and five children on their small groundnut farm. When not caring for her children, sweeping, and cooking, Alena loves spending time with her family and chatting with her neighbors.
One year ago, Alena began to experience severe pelvic pain and bleeding. Upon arrival at our medical partner’s care center, it was discovered that she has cervical cancer. Doctors recommended that she undergo a hysterectomy as soon as possible.
Alena is scheduled to receive treatment on January 19. Our medical partner, World Altering Medicine, is requesting $643 to cover the cost of the operation, medication, and seven nights of hospital stay. After recovery, Alena looks forward to returning home to her family, living free of cancer and pain.
“I am very ready for the operation,” she says. “And I am so thankful Watsi was here to help me.”
