Pheun is a rice farmer from Cambodia. He has been married for 30 years and has one daughter and two sons. He likes to tend to his personal vegetable garden. Two months ago, Pheun was in a motor vehicle accident that caused a fracture in his left forearm. It is difficult for him to use his arm, and he is in pain. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, can help. On January 2, Pheun will undergo a fracture repair procedure, which will cost $430. This procedure will help him use his arm freely again. He says, "I hope I can return home and to work soon."

Jibens is a student from Haiti. He lives in a very rural area in the mountains of southwest Haiti with his parents and three siblings. His parents are farmers. Jibens is in the second grade and enjoys going to school. Jibens has a cardiac condition called pulmonary stenosis. One of the four valves in his heart is too narrow, preventing blood from flowing through it and causing the blood to back up into his heart. Jibens will fly to the United States to receive treatment. On November 14, he will undergo cardiac surgery, during which surgeons will insert a catheter with a balloon on the tip into his valve, and then inflate the balloon to stretch the valve open to a more normal size. Another organization, Gift of Life International, is contributing $12,000 to pay for surgery. Jibens's family also needs help to fund the costs of surgery prep. The $1,500 bill covers labs, medicines, and checkup and followup appointments. It also supports passport obtainment and the social workers from our medical partner, Haiti Cardiac Alliance, who will accompany Jibens's family overseas. His mother says, "I am very happy that Jibens can have this surgery so that he can walk to school without getting tired."

Shadreck is a father of five and a farmer from Malawi. He lives with his brother and works as a farmer. He also tends to a garden at his home. Since last month, Shadreck has been experiencing urinary difficulty. These symptoms are caused by an enlarged prostate, a condition called benign prostatic hyperplasia. He needs to undergo a prostate resection surgery, a procedure in which surgeons will remove part of the enlarged gland. Our medical partner, World Altering Medicine, is requesting $733 to fund Shadreck's surgery. On October 25, he will undergo prostate surgery at Nkhoma Hospital, our medical partner's care center. The requested money pays for supplies, medications, and two weeks of hospital stay. Shadreck was very humbled and happy to find out his surgery was going to be funded. He says, “Thank you so much for helping me pay for my surgery. I was not expecting this help and feel very lucky to benefit from this program.”

Ann is a young girl from Kenya. She is the youngest of two children. She was diagnosed with cerebral palsy after birth. She also has clubfoot of her right foot. Clubfoot is a condition in which the foot is twisted out of shape. This causes difficulty walking and even wearing shoes. Fortunately, Ann traveled to visit our medical partner's care center, AIC Cure International Hospital. There, surgeons will perform clubfoot repair surgery on October 3. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $1,224 to fund Ann's clubfoot repair. After treatment, she will be able to walk easily. "If you can help my granddaughter undergo for surgery, I will be very grateful and I will praise God for the help,” Ann’s grandmother says.

Phae is a rice farmer from Cambodia. She has a daughter, three sons, and eight grandchildren. She enjoys watching Thai dramas on TV. Two years ago, Phae developed a cataract in each eye, causing her blurry vision and photophobia. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, and going anywhere outside. When Phae learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, she traveled for three hours seeking treatment. On September 4, doctors will perform a phacoemulsification surgery and an intraocular lens implant in each eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $398 procedure. She says, "I hope my eye surgery makes my vision clear so I can continue my work at the farm and I can lead an independent life."

Teom is a rice farmer from Cambodia. He has five sons, four daughters, and 20 grandchildren. One year, Teom developed a cataract in each eye, causing him blurry vision and photophobia. He has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, and going anywhere outside. When Teom learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, he traveled for four hours seeking treatment. On July 10, doctors will perform a small incision cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in each eye. After recovery, he will be able to see clearly. Now, he needs help to fund this $398 procedure. He says, "I hope I can recognize my relatives' faces and go to the local pagoda."

Daw Thet is a 45-year-old woman from Thailand. She used to work as a rubbish collector, but she no longer works. For four months, Daw Thet has been experiencing pain in her lower left abdomen. She has been diagnosed with an ovarian cyst. She has been advised to undergo an oophorectomy, a procedure in which surgeons will remove her ovaries. Fortunately, Daw Thet is scheduled to undergo her oophorectomy on June 11. Our medical partner, Burma Children Medical Fund, is requesting $913 to cover the total cost of her procedure and care. Daw Thet Oo says, “I want to recover and spend time with my family. I still want to do housework and help my family with cooking, cleaning and washing.”

Thomas is a toddler from Tanzania. He has two siblings. Thomas was diagnosed with genu varus, which means his legs bow outward at the knee. This condition is typically caused by an excessive accumulation of fluoride in the bones, which often stems from contaminated drinking water. This has affected his mobility. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $940 to fund corrective surgery for Thomas. The procedure is scheduled to take place on June 5. Treatment will hopefully restore Thomas's mobility, allow him to participate in a variety of activities, and greatly decrease his risk of future complications. Thomas’s mother says, "I will be so happy to see him walk well please help us."

Esther is a farmer from Kenya. She has three children. Seven years ago, Esther started experiencing troubling gynecological symptoms. The symptoms became worse in 2017. She has been diagnosed with adenomyosis. She needs to undergo a hysterectomy, a procedure in which surgeons will remove her uterus. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $718 to fund Esther's surgery. On April 25, she will undergo gynecological surgery at our medical partner's care center. Once recovered, Esther will be able to resume her daily activities free of pain. “I have no one to look upon and I wish to be well and care for my children. I am their only hope and can’t wait to see myself strong again,” says Esther.

Teleza is a mother of three from Malawi. She lives with her husband on their small farm, and she spends her days caring for her home and her children. In her free time, Teleza likes to sit and enjoy quality time with her husband. Since January 2018, Teleza has been experiencing pain and abnormal bleeding. She has been diagnosed with cervical cancer. She needs to undergo a hysterectomy, a procedure in which surgeons will remove her uterus. Our medical partner, World Altering Medicine, is requesting $650 to fund Teleza's surgery. On April 3, she will undergo gynecological surgery at Nkhoma Hospital, our medical partner's care center. The requested money pays for supplies, medications, and seven nights of hospital stay. Teleza was thrilled and relieved to find out her surgery would be funded. She is looking forward to going home cancer-free and being able to care for her family and home again. She says, "Thank you Watsi."

Roeun is a farmer from Cambodia. He has four children and likes to look after his family and his chickens. He has been in chronic hip pain for about three years. He isn't able to work more than a short period. Fortunately, Roeun learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre. At CSC, surgeons can perform a total knee replacement to relieve Roeun of his pain and allow him to walk easily. Treatment is scheduled for January 11, and Roeun needs help raising $1,025 to pay for this procedure. He says, "I want to be able to work and walk without pain."

Amosi is a farmer from Malawi. He lives with his wife, and they have six grown children. To supplement the family income, Amosi raises goats . In his free time, he likes to attend his local church with his family. Since October 2017, Amosi has been experiencing pain and urinary difficulty.
