Mary is a 45-year-old mother of four from Malawi, and all her children are currently attending school. Together with her husband, she works diligently in farming to provide for their family’s needs.
For about a year now, Mary has been experiencing uncomfortable symptoms including abdominal pains. Over time, the pain became worse and accompanied with bleeding until one day when she lost consciousness while in their farm. When she was rushed to hospital, Mary was very pale and received blood transfusions. She was then referred to our medical partner’s care center, Partners in Hope Medical center (PIH) where she was diagnosed with uterine fibroids. She needs to undergo a hysterectomy, a procedure in which surgeons will remove her uterus.
Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is helping Mary receive treatment. On March 22nd, she will undergo gynecological surgery at Partners in Hope Medical Center. Once recovered, Mary will be able to resume her daily activities free of the symptoms. She and her family are able to contribute towards the cost of her treatment, but need help raising $1,363 more to fund the surgery.
Mary says: “I am seeking support for my surgery because I wish to ensure a future for my children. It is my desire to regain my health so that I can fulfill my responsibilities as a mother.”
