Kaung is an 11-month-old boy from Thailand. He lives with his parents and two older brothers along the border with Myanmar in Tak Province. His father is a day laborer, while his mother stays home to care for Kaung. Because of Kaung’s health issues, his family had to borrow money from his father’s employer.
Since Kaung was born, he has had a swelling in a sensitive area. He often would cry and appear to be in pain. Because of the pain, he sometimes cannot even sleep. As his mother has to take close care of him, she stopped working to take care of Kaung. When Kaung is not in pain, he likes to play with his older siblings. Kaung has been diagnosed with inguinal hernia, a condition where abdominal tissue pushes against other parts of the lower region of the abdomen. Without surgery, he faces many future risks and health complications.
Fortunately, Kaung will undergo hernia repair surgery at Mae Sot General Hospital, our medical partner’s care center. Our medical partner, Burma Children Medical Fund, is requesting $1,500 to fund Kaung’s hernia repair surgery. The procedure is scheduled to take place on July 10th and, once completed, will hopefully allow him to live more comfortably.
Kaung’s mother said, “Thank you to the donors. Without you, we could not have afforded this surgery, as we even struggle for our daily food. I am very happy that the Burma Children Medical Fund and Watsi are here for us to help with his treatment.”
