Ireen is a 24-year-old single mother from Malawi. To support her family, Ireen grows maize. While fetching firewood, Ireen fell and fractured her elbow. Because of the pain, she is unable to perform daily tasks and work on the farm. If left untreated, it may result in the non-union of the fractured bone. She is scheduled for surgery on March 12th and our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $525 for her surgery and care. Treatment will relieve Ireen of the pain and help her resume working on her farm again. Ireen says, “I hope to receive treatment so that I can take care of my child.”

Sok, who was widowed many years ago, is a 77-year-old grandmother of 18 grandchildren. She lives in rural Mondulkiri province in Cambodia, with the youngest of her five daughters. Sok also has three sons. The family grows potatoes to earn a living. About a year ago, Sok developed entropion of the eyelids, where her eyelashes rub against her right eye's cornea. Entropion may be caused by weakening muscles under the eyes, infection, inflammation, or genetics. Without surgery, entropion can cause permanent damage to the cornea, eye infections, and vision loss. Sok sought help from our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre. On March 8th, surgeons will perform a corrective procedure to repair Sok's eyelid. Sok needs your help to raise $249 to fund this operation. Sok shared: "I hope after surgery my eye stops being irritated, tearing, and itching, so I won’t worry about it anymore."

Khemara is an 11th grader who lives in Kampong Thom province with his parents and older sister. His parents work as rice farmers, and he has three older brothers who live nearby and help support the family. Khemara likes playing volleyball and his favorite subject is history. He hopes to get a good job or join the army when he finishes high school. In December, Khemara was driving near his home when a dog ran into the road, causing him to swerve and crash. The accident caused a fracture in his right arm. He was unable to afford the private clinic near his house, so he sought treatment from a traditional healer in his village. Unfortunately, the fracture has not healed. He has limited function in his right hand and arm and is in chronic pain. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, can help. On January 11th, Khemara will undergo a fracture repair procedure, which will cost $483. This procedure will improve his arm function and help him to perform his everyday activities again. He shared, "I hope I can use my arm like before and be able to do my schoolwork and I'd like to play volleyball again."
