Arpadiri is a one-month-old baby from Tanzania. He has three siblings. His father works as a casual laborer. Arpadiri has been diagnosed with hydrocephalus, a condition in which excess cerebrospinal fluid accumulates in the brain and increases intracranial pressure. After birth, he underwent a shunt insertion surgery to drain the fluid. Unfortunately, after he was discharged from the hospital, he became unwell and his shunt was removed. He has been recommended for another surgery. His head is swelling, and he experiences vomiting and irritability. Without treatment, Arpadiri will experience severe physical and developmental delays. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $728 to cover the cost of surgery for Arpadiri that will treat his hydrocephalus. The procedure is scheduled to take place on November 16 and will drain the excess fluid from Arpadiri's brain. This will reduce intracranial pressure and greatly improve his quality of life. With proper treatment, Arpadiri will hopefully develop into a strong, healthy young boy. Arpadiri’s mother says, “Please help my son get this treatment. He is not eating well and he is in a lot of pain and discomfort. Please help him.”

Festo a 37-year-old man who lives in Uganda. Festo repairs shoes for income to support his family and his children’s school fees. During his free time, he enjoys playing with his children and asking them about school. He also enjoys working as a secretary in the local church in his village. For 15 years, Festo has had pain in his right inguinal region. When the pain became worse, Festo came to the hospital, and his doctor diagnosed him with an inguinal hernia. The doctor recommended he have a hernia repair to relieve the pain and discomfort. Fortunately, with the help of our medical partner, The Kellermann Foundation, Festo is scheduled to receive his treatment on August 4. After his treatment, Festo hopes to learn more skills in shoe repairing. Now, he needs help raising $229.

Yan Pai is a 16-year-old boy from Burma. His mother works as a laundress and a day laborer, planting and picking corn. He left school one year ago because his family could no longer afford tuition. Since then, Yan Pai has been working as a day laborer. For a few months, Yan Pai was experiencing pain in his leg. He tried to continue working, even taking a new job in a furniture shop. Recently, however, the pain grew so severe that Yan Pai found walking difficult and he began using crutches. X-rays showed an abnormal growth in his leg. He was referred to our medical partner for further investigation. On October 17, Yan Pai underwent an MRI. Watsi donors are currently funding this [procedure](https://watsi.org/profile/a9e34854b22c-yan-pai). From this MRI, Yan Pai’s doctor discovered a tumor in his left leg. On November 9, he performed surgery to remove the tumor. Now, Yan Pai’s family needs help to fund this $1,500 procedure.

Wai is a 45-year-old Burmese woman. She has lived in Thailand with her husband and son for many years. They moved to Thailand seeking better work opportunities after a flood destroyed the rice crops they grew in Burma. Now, Wai picks corn as a day laborer. She helps to support a grandchild who was born five months ago. Recently, however, Wai has been unable to work due to uncomfortable symptoms. She feels pain when she moves or walks, and she experiences frequent dizziness and headaches. Finally, Wai visited our medical partner’s hospital, Mae Sot General Hospital. On November 23, she will undergo a hysterectomy. This procedure should relieve her of her painful symptoms. Now, Wai needs help to fund this $1,500 treatment. “If I were to seek treatment inside Burma,” says Wai, “I would have to borrow money from a money lender, and my family would be stressed or have to sell land.” In her free time, Wai enjoys watching movies and looking after her grandchild. After recovery, she plans to continue working as day laborer to earn money for the family.
