Rodolph is a baby from Haiti. He lives with his mother, father, and older brother and sister in a neighborhood of Port-au-Prince. His father is a security guard, and his mother stays home with the children. Rodolph has a cardiac condition called ventricular septal defect. A hole exists between the two lower chambers of his heart. Blood leaks through this hole without passing through the lungs to obtain oxygen, leaving him weak and short of breath. Rodolph will fly to Cayman Islands to receive treatment. On December 16, he will undergo cardiac surgery, during which surgeons will sew the hole shut so blood can no longer leak through it. Another organization, Have a Heart Cayman, is contributing $17,000 to pay for surgery. Rodolph's family also needs help to fund the costs of surgery prep. The $1,500 bill covers labs, medicines, and checkup and followup appointments. It also supports passport obtainment and the social workers from our medical partner, Haiti Cardiac Alliance, who will accompany Rodolph's family overseas. His mother says, "I am so thankful that my son's heart can be healed!"

Borey is a vegetable farmer from Cambodia. He has three sons and six grandchildren. He likes listening to the news. Two months ago, Borey developed a cataract in each eye, causing him blurry vision and sensitivity to light. He has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, and going anywhere outside. When Borey learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, he traveled for four hours seeking treatment. On November 13, doctors will perform a small incision cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in each eye. After recovery, he will be able to see clearly. Now, he needs help to fund this $398 procedure. His daughter-in-law says, "I hope my father in law can see again."

Arpadiri is a one-month-old baby from Tanzania. He has three siblings. His father works as a casual laborer. Arpadiri has been diagnosed with hydrocephalus, a condition in which excess cerebrospinal fluid accumulates in the brain and increases intracranial pressure. After birth, he underwent a shunt insertion surgery to drain the fluid. Unfortunately, after he was discharged from the hospital, he became unwell and his shunt was removed. He has been recommended for another surgery. His head is swelling, and he experiences vomiting and irritability. Without treatment, Arpadiri will experience severe physical and developmental delays. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $728 to cover the cost of surgery for Arpadiri that will treat his hydrocephalus. The procedure is scheduled to take place on November 16 and will drain the excess fluid from Arpadiri's brain. This will reduce intracranial pressure and greatly improve his quality of life. With proper treatment, Arpadiri will hopefully develop into a strong, healthy young boy. Arpadiri’s mother says, “Please help my son get this treatment. He is not eating well and he is in a lot of pain and discomfort. Please help him.”

Ann is a six-year-old who lives in Kenya with her family. Ann's father passed away, and her mother works as a farmer to support her seven children. Last April, Ann began complaining of a persistent headache. Ann’s mother took her to the nearest local hospital, where she underwent a CT scan and an MRI. Ann was diagnosed with a brain tumor and referred to our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, for specialized treatment. If not treated, Ann is at a risk of suffering brain damage and not achieving her dream of becoming a teacher. Thankfully, she is scheduled for surgery on December 4. Ann's mother exhausted all her savings on the CT scan and is not able to raise the funds needed for her daughter's surgery. She is appealing to Watsi for financial aid to raise the $1,500 that is necessary for Ann's surgery. “I would like to be a teacher when I grow up,” says Ann. After surgery, Ann will hopefully be able to get back to her schooling and become the teacher she aspires to be.

Nim is seven years old and lives with her family in Cambodia. She likes cartoons and drawing flowers. She had a high fever as a baby, for which she was given several shots in her thighs at a local clinic. Her legs have become very stiff, possibly due to the injections, and she has trouble walking normally. Nim's family brought her to our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, and the doctors have decided surgery is necessary. She will need a contracture release surgery, which will help her mobility and leg function. Her surgery is scheduled for November 11. Nim's family cannot afford the cost of the surgery and are appealing to Watsi to help fund the $417 that is necessary. "I hope my daughter can walk normally," says her mother. After surgery, Nim's mobility will hopefully improve and she will be able to continue growing happy and healthy again.
