Mao is a 26-year-old delivery driver from Cambodia. He lives in Pursat Province with his three siblings, his parents, and his niece. His parents work as rice farmers, and his siblings help support the family by working in various local jobs, including factory work and making deliveries for local shops and restaurants. In his free time, Mao enjoys playing soccer and raising cows in the fields behind the family's house. When he was nine years old, Mao had an ear infection. This infection caused a cholesteatoma, or an abnormal skin growth, to develop in the middle ear behind the ear drum. For this reason, Mao experiences recurrent left ear discharge, accompanied by dizziness and ringing in the ear. It is difficult for him to communicate with people, and he experiences chronic discomfort. Mao traveled to our medical partner's care center to receive treatment. On June 3rd, he will undergo a mastoidectomy procedure in his left ear. During this procedure, ENT surgeons will remove the cholesteatoma. Mao can contribute $250 towards his medical care but needs assistance to raise $676 more to fund the procedure. Mao shared, "I hope my hearing will improve, and I can work without any pain or difficulty hearing my customers."

Samoeun is a loving grandmother from Cambodia. She lives with her husband, who works as a cleaner at the local market. Together, they have two sons, three daughters, and nine grandchildren. Samoeun previously sold eggs at the market, but her declining vision forced her to stop. Now, she stays at home and enjoys listening to the monks pray on the radio. About eight months ago, Samoeun developed a cataract in her left eye, causing her itchiness, tearing, and blurry vision. A cataract is a clouding of the lens of the eye, so it is like looking through a frosty or fogged-up window. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, including colors and faces, and is worried about falling when walking, so is not able to go places on her own. When Samoeun learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, she traveled for three hours seeking treatment. On June 7th, doctors will perform a phacoemulsification cataract surgery, and an intraocular lens implant in her left eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $203 procedure. Samoeun said, "I hope after surgery I can see better, recognize the faces of my grandchildren, and help my husband at the market."

Ren is a 75-year-old grandmother with two sons, four daughters, and 15 grandchildren. She lives with her husband and their youngest daughter who is a rice farmer. Previously, Ren was also a rice farmer, planting rice to feed her family, but now she struggles with blurry vision in her left eye, a condition that has worsened over the past year. Her days are often spent listening to the monks pray on the radio. One year ago, Ren developed a cataract in her left eye, causing her itchiness, tearing, and blurry vision. Ren can contribute $75 but needs help to raise $178 more to fund her surgery. Ren says, "I hope that after my operation, I can recognize my family, and do household chores again."
